Holy cranky Batman..today was one of those nasty days in paradise-started fine, but diminished shortly after noon. Heres the motorhome scoop-stuff builds up and you have to release it..and sometimes things break, like the "poop hose" I guess that it is a rite of passage for a rookie RV family, kinda like a chain link scar for an amateur mountainbiker. I heard a few expletives, and then a smell emanated from just outside of the kitchen window, that smelled somewhat like farm, or worse. The hose had in fact busted and Sam and Joe were frantically hosing all of the crap down, and apologizing profusely to the neighbours, and a couple who had just rolled in. Of to the RV place in San Jose to get a new hose and various other preventatory measures.
When we arrived home, it was mega clean up time. In between that however, one of our doors dropped off from its hinges and the grey water( stuff from the sink-dishwasher water) had backed up in the bathtub, soaking, or oiling all of our snorkelling stuff and dirty clothes that were stored there until I got around to cleaning them. As well, I'm cranky today because we've been going at a fast pace and today was supposed to be catch up time-like laundry, organization etc. Coupled with that I had to deal with Jaime who frantically wanted to call a friend right now!!-and damned if we knew how to use the bloody calling card. I told her that it was part of her school work to learn how to use it, and eventually did.
O.K., so on a lighter note, these past few days have been more of the same in Cabo..sun, surf, and exploration. Yesterday John and Leigh came over and we tried out the new zodiac, a disappointment to Joe after weeks of waiting to try it out. In his words: "feels like a motorized water bed.." Hopefully it just needs tweaking to make it more user friendly. Fortunately it served its purpose and ferried us all over the famous beach that Jaime had mentioned, or locally the Arches beach. For snorkelling, apparently this is the primo destination in Cabo, but because it was so choppy, it was hard to see much. We did however see puffer fish, and all different kinds of multicoloured fish, and swam in an incredibly exotic beach area, surrounding by monolithic sculptured rocks.
Now for my mountainbiking highlight. As a mountainbiker and traveller, you are always looking for a "clubmember"someone who "gets" that climbing up a steep, sandy, rut filled road in 75 degree weather is fun, and is a requirement for your well being and humour. I was fortunate to find that individual, who happened to be parked right behind us and is from Homer Alaska, who is close to 70, and lives half the year here in his motorhome, and half the year in Alaska. He rides every day and for the last 3 days, we have ridden up the sand and cactus soaked terrain not too far from the rv park and I've enjoyed every minute of it. It is hard to keep up with him! I think about all of my riding buddies at home knowing that the experiences that I've been having would be appreciated by all-not technical stuff but lots of climbing and new terrain. What I enjoy so much about travelling is meeting those individuals who are treasures in their own rights and Marty is one of them-soft spoken with a real sparkle and love of life, whose motto is "Inspiration through Perspiration" Long may you run as Neil Young says!
