A land of vast distances and rich natural resources, Canada became a self-governing dominion in 1867 while retaining ties to the British crown. Economically and technologically the nation has developed in parallel with the US, its neighbor to the south across an unfortified border. Canada's paramount political problem is meeting public demands for quality improvements in health care and education services after a decade of budget cuts. The issue of reconciling Quebec's francophone heritage with the majority anglophone Canadian population has moved to the back burner in recent years; support for separatism abated after the Quebec government's referendum on independence failed to pass in October of 1995. It's always dangerous to write about experiences that occurred almost two months ago. With the passage of time comes a natural romantisization. The nostalgic part of my brain has already added a soundtrack and cut out the down time. But my warm feelings of Saskatchewan in summer never change. Dennie and I touched down in Regina tired and excited in early July with high expectations of weddings, bbq’s, family dinners, backyard parties, music festivals and camping trips. Another year brought change; relationships came and went, friends moved away and others returned, babies turned into tod [View Full Entry]

I “talked” to HKW a few days later, playfully bantering with her via the sky blue interface of Facebook in order to grease up the wheels of our slowly evolving relationship. It was nice and easy chitchat over a few days using Facebook’s ingenious “Message” system. When I felt the small talk was all but exhausted, I let my intentions (well camouflaged among other nonsensical shit) shine through. “i just remembered...i owe you dinner!! where to, mon ami?” Which is probably the worst way to phrase my intentions considering (1) it sounds like I [View Full Entry]

On Saturday, September 27th Curtis and I are leaving the country for 4 months. We are both very excited as this trip has been long awaited. We have talked about doing a trip like this for years and it is finally just around the corner. How exciting! I have only one day left of work and Curtis is already on holiday time! We have some last few things to do before we leave like pack up our cat and all her little belongings and bring them to Curtis's parents house who have graciously said they would take care of her while [View Full Entry]
