Okay so maybe one more blog. As we were driving along this morning I started thinking about our trip and some of our observations about Canada, so I thought I would list them. *The Lupine grow like crazy here. They are not only along all the roadways, they are in the woods and peoples yards, very beautiful. *Campgrounds are mostly filled with seasonal campers with only a limited number of spots for transients like us. *The typography and scenery are very much like New England *Gas is the same price at every gas station in a particular area; must be government controlled *There are some asshole drivers, but certainly not as many as we have at home. *Lobsters and oyster have not been as popular in restaurants as we thought they would be. *People here are ... read more

As I write this I’m sitting in the Maple Leaf Lounge at Toronto Pearson International Airport waiting to board Air Canada flight 856, and due to land at London Heathrow around 08:35 tomorrow. It was strange saying goodbye to Susan, Sarah, Victoria, Sadie and Cash – I’ll miss them all! As I'm sure you can imagine, yesterday was a quiet day. We spend most of it just chilling at Susan’s home in Cambridge, but we did pop out to meet Lyn and her grandson, Joe-Joe, for a walk and to grab some caches. It was a hot afternoon, but the walk was very pleasant, it was lovely to see Lyn again, and Joe-Joe is a wonderful smiley baby! I even took a turn at pulling his wagon. As far as I’m aware, we don’t have baby ... read more

Well, we are on our way back home. Today was an uneventful day. After a relaxing morning, we left Linwood Campground around 10:00, and arrived at Loch Lomond RV Park in Amherst, Nova Scotia around 1:00. We had stayed here at the beginning of our journey around Nova Scotia and enjoyed it so much we decided to come back. Not much to say about today, no highlights or pictures to share with you. After a long day on the road yesterday driving the Cabot Trail, it felt good to spend the afternoon going for a short walk and relaxing in the sun. Our plans now are to spend tomorrow night near the US border, the following night near Bangor, Maine, and then home. So folks, not sure how much more will be posted. We hope you ... read more

Day 8 - Today was an amazing day! We left the campground in the "Bug" around 10:00 in a very thick fog. I was feeling very disappointed that our drive to and around the Cabot Trail was going to be a bust. After driving for about an hour towards the coast, the sun started to break through, the fog burned off, and it turned into a beautiful day. Before long the amazing scenery was before us. The coast line is lined with mountains and cliffs with different shades of blue, green and bro,wn. Once in the National Park, we entered the "Highlands" and the scenery got even better. The Cabot trail is named after an Italian explorer named John Cabot. He sailed under the British flag, sponsored by King Henry VII, to find lands west of ... read more

Day 7 First of all Happy Father's Day to all of you dad's out there. Last night was filled with lightning, thunder and heavy rain. I just love the sound of the rain hitting the roof of the RV, it reminds me of my younger years when we stayed at our farm during the summer months. By morning the rain had slowed down considerably and we decided to have a leisurely start to the day. Of course, being it was Father's Day I treated Ray by making one of his favorite breakfasts, eggs and hash. We hit the road around 10, and by then the rain was just a drizzle. The drive was quite uneventful, I'm not sure if I have mentioned this before, but the roads here, except for the major cities are quite uncrowded. ... read more

Saturday was spent gardening, cleaning and preparing for the Susan’s birthday barbeque. I was given the responsibility of using the Whipper Snipper to cut the edge of the grass. Whipper Snipper is a much better name for a grass trimmer than Strimmer! I was also given the responsibility of loading the charcuterie board and assisting with frying the onions. Susan did so much in the morning that she needed a bit of a nap in the afternoon! It was lovely to meet some more of Susan’s friends, and a very pleasant evening was had by all with plenty of food and drink being consumed. The mossies were out again though! Having started our celebrations quite early, we were tidied up and in bed at a sensible time, however some of the neighbours weren’t, with a party ... read more

As I am sure you probably already figured out we did not have internet yesterday so here is the blog that should have gone out last night. Day 5 We left Port Royal with a bit of overcast, but not cold. As we passed St. Mary's Bay it was socked in with fog which soon lifted, and it turned into a glorious day. Our drive today to Yarmouth was about 2 hours, and we arrived at our camp site, Campers Haven, around noon. After setting up, which has become so very smooth, and a quick lunch we hit the road with the "bug". Our mission today was to check out the area that Ray's grandparents, Frank German and Jane Amirault were from, Pubnico and East Pubnico. Also many generations of his family were from this area, ... read more

Day 6 - We hit the road again and on our way to Mahone Bay with the morning draped in a deep fog. We had decided to drive to Hubbards where there was a nice campground that had a restaurant, and was featuring a lobster dinner....yum! As we passed through the Shelburne area both sides of the road were charred from the recent wild fire. It was so interesting to see areas completely burned, and a house in it's midst untouched. I imagine the firefighters worked very hard for that to happen. Unfortunately, there were many homes that were lost to the fire, and in fact, the highway we were traveling on was just opened after being closed for some time. Our understanding is the fire is still ongoing, but under control. We arrived at the ... read more

After a wonderful nights sleep by the both of us, we awoke to a beautiful day. After breakfast we went to the Port Royal Habitation, a recreation of a 17th century french compound. It was very interesting to see how they lived and functioned in those early days. Because of the many hardships they had to endure, they established the Order of Good Cheer, to keep their table joyous and well provided. Basically, the men took turns hosting the banquet and arraigning entertainment. There was no mention of what the women were doing that night. Life then was pretty hard. From there, we headed of to Digby, where we planned to have lunch. Digby is a seaport catering mostly to fishing vessels, and claiming to be the scallop capital of the world. We found a lovely ... read more

We awoke to find the rain had stopped, but that there was now new snow on the mountain tops - so pretty! We left Dead Man’s Flats and drove west back towards Calgary. Rather than drive down the Trans Canada Highway, we took the scenic route. I’d had a look on Google Maps, and found place called Ghost Lake which looked quite nice to visit. As we drove there I was looking into the trees lining the road with the hope of seeing a bear when Susan said, “Look! An animal!” I looked to the other side of the road where she was pointing but didn’t spot anything, and she told me it was a brown animal. Could it be the elusive bear, I wondered? No, when we got closer to it and could both see ... read more
