A land of vast distances and rich natural resources, Canada became a self-governing dominion in 1867 while retaining ties to the British crown. Economically and technologically the nation has developed in parallel with the US, its neighbor to the south across an unfortified border. Canada's paramount political problem is meeting public demands for quality improvements in health care and education services after a decade of budget cuts. The issue of reconciling Quebec's francophone heritage with the majority anglophone Canadian population has moved to the back burner in recent years; support for separatism abated after the Quebec government's referendum on independence failed to pass in October of 1995. Well I learned something last night - that the worst January on history here in Whistler (last year) was caused by a tropical front from 10 degrees latitude called the Tropical Punch. Fortunately for us we have been inundated with westerlies recently and one dumped last night and then cleared this afternoon so I have some nice pictures at last. Next week is our last week in the condo, and a housemate's birthday, so we're going to be holding a bbq/ hotub party and invite everyone we know, and get them to do the same. And yes, the bbq is outside [View Full Entry]

This is us on a recent trip to Jamaica!
Greetings! 7 months and 15 days is the time left until we depart. So this travel blog is being started a little bit early, but I'm sure there will be a few things along the road of planning that I'd like to journal. Life is a bit hectic right now. We are moving into a new house on February 10th! Which means we are in the midst of packing everything and that's a pain. I'll introduce my family: Me (Erin) - 24, unemployed right now and searching for my "niche" I guess. I'm hoping this trip will push me outside my [View Full Entry]

Another hard day's rocking ending in me headbutting the packed powder slope - very thankful I was wearing my helmet. This evening instead of drinking and playing poker (a nightly event in the house) we are going to educate our minds with a talk from the Whistler Naturalists entitled 'Pineapples, powder and precipitation' - basically about weather patterns and which ones to look out for. I applied for a non-profit consultant job today, but think it would be a long-shot - we'll see. Yesterday was sunny, but because of a late night out we didn't get out and I'm not sure [View Full Entry]

Nelson
Nelson

It is now two days before we leave. We are packed and ready to go. Can't wait to be there. Tyson is going over all the details and driving me crazy with every question under the sun(it's like he thinks i have all the answers) I have decided that I don't know and what will happen will happen. Tonight we met with the commish and did the legal part of marriage. Haley was there and she signed as my witness. Very cool. It was nice that she was part of it like that. Here is a picture after the meeting [View Full Entry]

Minus 16 Grad.
Minus 16 Grad.
Sonntag, 15. Januar.
Weltidee also: Schreiben wir doch mal auf, was uns so bewegt. C. Mertens hat sic [View Full Entry]

Wetternet

Today was my last day of work. Now I am really stressed. I took my baby Tom yesterday over to Victoria to spend a glorious three weeks with Grandpa. He was really upset to find out that Uncle Felix and Aunty Becky live there too. I am sure that they will all work it out. But Tom has a really nasty reaction to change. I think I do too. I couldnt sleep last night without him. This morning I got up and started looking for him. Pretty bad. I spoke to Dad tonight and he said that Tom was having trouble [View Full Entry]

Okay so here we are. 4 days before we leave to go to Mexico. I still have to work one more day then I will be off for two weeks. I haven't had two weeks vacation for five years. Hopefully I will be able to keep myself entertained LOL. Tyson started his time off last night and he is bouncing off the walls with excitment. I think as we get closer to the departure date I will have to tie him down. We have organized the ceremony from chairs to which way the wind will blow in. The food for the [View Full Entry]
