A land of vast distances and rich natural resources, Canada became a self-governing dominion in 1867 while retaining ties to the British crown. Economically and technologically the nation has developed in parallel with the US, its neighbor to the south across an unfortified border. Canada's paramount political problem is meeting public demands for quality improvements in health care and education services after a decade of budget cuts. The issue of reconciling Quebec's francophone heritage with the majority anglophone Canadian population has moved to the back burner in recent years; support for separatism abated after the Quebec government's referendum on independence failed to pass in October of 1995. Canada has it's fair share of unusual town names, Moosejaw being the first that I've hit. Whilst sitting on the Greyhound from Alberta, the image of a goofy looking horse with horns talking non stop on the seat next to me kept popping into my head. Of course it never came to life, which is clearly a good thing as I don't really want to be that crazy on my travels. After a not so restful sleep rolling along the flatlands through the night, I thought my eyes were having some colour issues when I managed to pry them open. The [View Full Entry]

Planning

North America » Canada » Ontario » London
This is my brand new Travelblog, very happy to have begun. The countdown is on, only 13 more days until I leave Canada's London for England's London! Currently I am still in school mode since exams are next week, so planning my trip will now take up all of my study break time. I will leave Toronto to fly into London April 26th, and then return May 28th. In that time I hope to hit up France, Italy, and Greece before returning to London. Since the internet is everywhere, I am going to try and keep up with these postings as [View Full Entry]

Whistler

Mick gave me a free return bus ticket to Whistler so on Monday morning I took the Snowbus across to Whistler. The journey took 2 hours...I was dreading it having lost my ipod, but it was absolutely fine as they played us a film and I fell asleep! I woke when my head bashed against the window really hard, and couldn't believe the view. It looked like we were driving through a tropical island, we were looking over the lake and all the mist was lingering over the other islands across the trees. I met Lucy in Whistler Village and we [View Full Entry]

Day 7: April 12 - Toronto, Niagara Falls Accommodation: Global Backpackers So here I was in Canada. I figured I’d get my Niagara Falls tour over first off just in case I ran out of time later on and missed out. The bus picked me up from the hostel and drove about 1˝ to 2 hours on a freeway down to the town nearby to the falls. I couldn’t believe how touristy it was, and all the prices were displayed in US and Canadian dollars seeing it was so close to the border. First stop was Niagara’s observation tower, the Skylon. Hello all, Its time for me to give you more info on life across the pond. Firstly, in the space of about a month the weather has changed dramatically. It was still hitting temperatures like -7 at the beginning of the month. Now, each day tops out at around 15 to 20 and its gorgeous. The sun is shining, everyones in a good mood, the mini-skirts are out and the sun stays out later. I am very settled into a routine now. I have great job in an amazing location overlooking Lake Ontario and the Toronto Islands(What more could you want [View Full Entry]

Hmmm..

So it just occurred to me that I leave for Thailand in less than a month, which may still seem like a lot of time, but when you take into consideration all the things I still have to get organized before I go, it would be a fair assumption to say that I’ll be up to my eyeballs in last minute shit soon enough. Hopefully I’ll be able to limp my way through finals and then can really buckle down and focus on the 3 months ahead of me which will consist of lounging on the beach or in the jungle [View Full Entry]

I have in my travels come to appreciate the wide and varied world of Tim Horton's doughnut menu. I have decided the chocolate glazed is my favourite - its like cake and doughnut combined into a wonderful disc of happiness! I am still on the search for a bear-claw but doesnt seem to be as common as I expected... still there is plenty of time and plenty of tim hortons across this great country!
