A land of vast distances and rich natural resources, Canada became a self-governing dominion in 1867 while retaining ties to the British crown. Economically and technologically the nation has developed in parallel with the US, its neighbor to the south across an unfortified border. Canada's paramount political problem is meeting public demands for quality improvements in health care and education services after a decade of budget cuts. The issue of reconciling Quebec's francophone heritage with the majority anglophone Canadian population has moved to the back burner in recent years; support for separatism abated after the Quebec government's referendum on independence failed to pass in October of 1995. Terence and b-rad lookin' good!
heyaz! So these days have been fun. I've been doing exciting things like getting subscription drugs, packing up my apartment, getting things ready for Chicago afterwards, getting my travelpack set, getting my slides ready, as well as getting some rough plan about what I'm up to. I just came from the Cambie from my leaving drinks. I love that place! $8.25 (Canadian!) pitchers of classy beer with completly unclassy service. Rock. But everyone who is amazing showed up and it was a nice send off. I'm going to miss people here. But I know I'll be back. I hope they realize/remember [View Full Entry]

De provincie Alberta (AB) is overigens ‘the place to be’ als [View Full Entry]

Started the day with great excitement at the thought of seeing pods of Orcas, followed by great disappointment at our breakfast! Our hotel claims they provide a free continental breakfast, and when we checked in they informed us that we would need to collect vouchers; however we didn’t think too much about that at the time. At reception we collected our breakfast vouchers which turned out to be Mc Donald vouchers for a free coffee and muffin!!! Continental breakfast my foot! I guess we will be frequenting the neighbouring Mc D’s. Liisa nipped in to collect breakfast, orange [View Full Entry]

HAHAHA Are we having fun yet? I think so
HAPPY EASTER EVERYONE!! Well it’s my last night in Calgary and the last 3 days have been great. I really want to thank everyone that came out, it was great to see you all before I left! It meant the world to me to see you all out. Those of you that didn’t come out, I’m sure you had your reasons. First night out at Ranchmans was a blast! The 2nd night at Cowboys was a little rough to get started but once the beer started flowing it got crazy from there. What was supposed to be a nice night relaxing [View Full Entry]

As scheduled, we visited one of the most spectacular natural sceneries in the world, Banff. In just a few moments we saw more mountains then some will see in their entire life. The weather was perfect, sunny and cool. We stayed in the most amazing hotels (www.fairmont.com/banffsprings/ + www.fairmont.com/lakelouise/ ) with the help of Mike and Cathy. The service and food were perfect. Definitely one of the most stunning places in the world. [View Full Entry]

Here are some more pics from my going away party for those that are interested. http://s19.photobucket.com/albums/b181/Csamborsky_3/Glyns%20Going%20Away%20Weekend/ Well its Saturday morning and I finally have time to sit down and do an update on this thing. The flight out here went great but before I even stepped off the plan I knew I was in for an interesting trip. Do you know when you are flying into the airport and they give you the "seatbacks and tray tables" speech? At the Montreal airport they gave the French version first, uh-oh. So I get off the plane and all I hear is French [View Full Entry]

The Final Destination Our final destination on the Erie Lakeshore Trek, which unintentionally put us here on Easter weekend. Plenty of Hacidic Jews, Indians, and other non-believers sharing the experience. A perfect couple of days plus the benefits of being HHonors Silver at the time, which justified benefits not typically found at American properties. A little cool but we had wonderful weather . . . The Fallsview Hilton The pictures are much more impressive than the view let's on to, though we did have a great view. The suite had a great jacuzzi pass-through bathroo [View Full Entry]

I went to the game with Claire and Kim, not alone honest
Until I read Duncs blog, I didnt realise how long it was since my last update. I have been lucky enough recently to have been given more free basketball tickets. Sometimes I cant believe my luck, it seems to get better and better. This time a gym member gave me and 2 tickets to a game an amazing 10 rows behind the bench, all because I helped him with his bench press! I ended up going with Luigi. We arrived about an hour before tip-of to soak up all the atmosphere and get some photos near the court. The game itself [View Full Entry]

After a fascinating six weeks on the road, it was a good feeling to be back in Canada Friday afternoon, and even better to be back in Esterhazy tonight! My return flights were without serious incident: Air Canada ripped a handle off my new suitcase (it was pretty heavy I guess), and kept us waiting in the plane for an extra 40 minutes in Vancouver before taking off today, but the flights themselves were smooth and the weather here is much warmer than I expected. In fact, my room is hotter than any I had in Guatemala while I was away, [View Full Entry]
