If you've ever traveled abroad then you know one of the easiest ways to identify a Canadian is to look for the Canadian flag sewn on their backpack. Sure, at first glance Canada may seem to resemble the country it shares a common border with, but don't be mistaken. This country is quick to distinguish itself from its American neighbor and you might even say Canada is a little friendlier, a little more laid back and, of course, a lot colder. For starters, this cosmopolitan country has two official languages, French and English. And then there's the province of Quebec, considered to be unique in culture with cities like Montreal and Quebec City that boast a rare European old world meets modern metropolis fusion that's unseen anywhere else in North America. Canada also has a reputation for being a tolerant and even peaceful society - except when it comes to hockey! The country is known for its gay-friendly immigration laws and legalization of same-sex marriage. And as a highly developed nation rich in natural resources, Canadians enjoy a comfortable lifestyle where the country is generous in providing its citizens with social services, most notably, universal healthcare.

Canada has an abundance of lakes so getting around the country is likely to include a ferry trip at some point. Otherwise, traveling by car can offer a spectacular opportunity to experience Canada's natural beauty. Various scenic drives cut through Canada's wilderness and allow the nature loving traveler to stop along the way to hike, camp, fish and spot wildlife - even Moose or Grizzly. If you still want to stay active but don't wish to take your chances with the wildlife, then cycling one of Montreal's many bike paths is another great option. British Columbia also has stunning national parks and exciting cities. If you head to Vancouver, keep your eyes open for celebrities. Behind LA and New York City, Vancouver is third in entertainment TV and film production. The city is also host to the 2010 winter Olympic games.

Highlights

 • Yukon Take the Yukon wildlife scenic route and explore rivers, trails, wildlife and more. The highway connects the US to Alaska via Canada.
 • Vancouver , British Columbia Home of the 2010 winter Olympics, visit Grouse Mountain, just 15 minutes outside of Vancouver. The mountain has year-round activities including skiing, ice skating, paragliding and mountain ziplines.
 • Niagara Falls; Ontario See the Great Lakes and the majestic Niagara Falls
 • Quebec Culturally and architecturally rich Francophone province in Canada

Party on!
September 19 - Willow Farm, Aurora, Ontario One last party with close friends before leaving. Naturally we had an African Theme. The food was provided by a good friend of Lawrence and Nadia - Jacob. Jacob is the personal chef for Chris Bosch - star of the Toronto Raptors. He was assisted by his brother, Lucas, and assistant chef Chris from Peru. What an unbelievale feast! All of the courses were representative of dishes from different parts of Africa. Entertainment was provided by Brian Larter on his keyboard, DJ on the bongos, Sheremet on Keyboard and Bongos, Rod on the Maracas, [View Full Entry]

Oldest institution in the former Italian neighbourhood -Cafe Calabria
THE DRIVE For Vancouverites born and raised on the Westside, we enjoy "visiting" the freewheeling, artsy-folksy-funky and offbeat eastside neighborhood every summer on Vancouver's Commercial Drive, aka The Drive. Admittedly, we look and feel a little out of place, but nevertheless, it's fun venturing on the wild side once in a while since it's where divas, dykes and "addicts" roam the streets. For this reason alone, it's fun to go to The Drive and just watch the people stroll by. This summer was no different when we headed down to The Drive, except this year we brought our ca [View Full Entry]

Capilano Suspension Bridge Had a "Sunshine Breakfast" again - this time with toast and my own bought jam lol. We hen walked straight through DownTown Vancouver to Waterfront station to catch a Seabus (water ferry) to North Vancouver. Waterfront Station is really pretty - like a very small version of Central Station. We walked to the ferry terminal - well ran - as the Seabus was about to depart. The Seabus moved quite quickly really and gave us a great view of The City of North Vancouver. We docked and caught a bus to the Capilano Suspension Bridge and Treetops Adventure. [View Full Entry]

I sit here, with a giant pile of adorable long-hair, domestic mop of a Freya on my right lap, I'd like to recall some details my flight and arrival into St. John's, though there wasn't too much to report about it. The flight wasn't very long, though it was long enough to make good use of the individual screens on the back of each seats to watch a full length feature film. I chose "Night at the Museum 2" since I'd seen the first one and hadn't gotten around to watch the second for lack of interest, I suppose. It was [View Full Entry]

Oh we traveled all afternoon into the night, we needed to get back into Canada, the car was sounding very rough. It was a wheel bearing. We got to Windsor late, breezed through Detroit. We had no trouble getting back into Canada. lol It was great to be home. The American people are nice for the most part. We didn't get a lot of help in Chicago with the money matter but but everywhere else they were hospitable! Of all the places we've been my favorite part of the state was South Dakota, people wise, they were very nice, scenery wise, [View Full Entry]
