A land of vast distances and rich natural resources, Canada became a self-governing dominion in 1867 while retaining ties to the British crown. Economically and technologically the nation has developed in parallel with the US, its neighbor to the south across an unfortified border. Canada's paramount political problem is meeting public demands for quality improvements in health care and education services after a decade of budget cuts. The issue of reconciling Quebec's francophone heritage with the majority anglophone Canadian population has moved to the back burner in recent years; support for separatism abated after the Quebec government's referendum on independence failed to pass in October of 1995. I flew in to YVR late Monday night but luckily had arranged for VIP transportation courtesy of Mr. Dave Moriarty, an old pal from elementary school. He had reserved his "in-demand" couch for a couple of days during my stay in town. He shares a two bedroom apartment with his best friend Jon from high school just south of downtown so it was perfect territory for planting my big awkward feet. Just to give a little background on Dave: we met in grade 1 after I moved back from England with the Davis clan. Seeing as how I had a British [View Full Entry]

or How I Learned To Stop Worrying And Love The Insects The farm was in a fairly remote location called Johnson's Landing, with mountains on one side and picturesque Kootenay Lake on the other, though there was running water and electricity. My hosts were Kate and Harvey, who were lovely, and my home was the 'Roundhouse' cabin. White-tailed deer and wild turkeys would regularly come down to the farm, as would bears apparently, though thankfully I didn't encounter any of the latter during my stay. I have now heard one too many stories of people getting their faces eaten off by [View Full Entry]

Refit pic's!! We know we have been holding everyone off from viewing pictures of the boat until the refit was complete, but here are a few pics that might appease your curiosity. Sorry it’s taking so long for us to share these, but we are somewhat apprehensive of showing what is only partially complete because we don’t want anyone to form an opinion of this vessel based on incomplete pictures, She’s one fabulous boat and we are very proud of the work we have performed on her to date. Here are a few pictures of the galley, which we have completely [View Full Entry]

[View Full Entry]

Yarmouth NS (Better knowen as Fogmouth!!) We departed Shelburne at midnight on September 17th to sail around the cape and up to Yarmouth. We sailed through the “Schooner Passage”, a shortcut which saves about 10-12 nautical miles but must say that it is NOT easy. We purposely timed our passage for a flood tide, as there is a little over 3 knots of current that bubbles around you and spins you through some rip tide. This is not the place to play around as there are many shoals and bends to wiggle through. Wouldn’t want to either loose the engine or [View Full Entry]
