New Brunswick and Halifax
Yes, it’s been a long time coming but here it is… the last stage of our cross Canada trip…
So after Montreal we ended up spending a week with the Hallyburton family in New Brunswick. It was great to stay in one place for more than a couple of days! Also managed to do some catching up with friends --lived it up at a nice little “Welcome back to the Maritimes” party courtesy of Pamela (thanks a bunch, chickie!) and enjoyed spending some time visiting Sarah & Matt at their new diggs in St. John (oh, the games, the Paderno, the wine - sooooo gooood!)
After about of week of socializing in NB, we realized….we really need to find a place to live in Halifax!! So we started looking for apartments on the Sunday, which gave us less than a week to find a place for August 1st. Many thanks to Jane & Jim for putting us up at their place during our hunt - and extra props to Jane for helping us sift through all the apartment listings (thank goodness )!! Things were looking a little bleak and we were preparing to be nomads
for the month of August, but we found our apartment right in the nick of time - on July 31st!!
Unemployment made for lots of time to unpack our wordly belongings, not to mention carting over more stuff that’s been stored at the Hallyburton attic in NB. ….three carloads later, we’re finally settling into our cozy little home - *sigh of contentment*. We absolutely LOVE the location - we can walk everywhere and have an outdoor tennis court and pool to boot! Job prospects are moving along a little slower than we’d anticipated, what with everyone who’s supposed to interview us being on vacation and all (!) But, wait, we are SO enjoying the month of August as a vacation!! We are still not bored and have spent most of August shopping, going to the beach, swimming and buying all the types of things we sold two months ago.
Things especially enjoyed so far:
- Living on the water: adoring coastal views
- Tennis anyone? ‘Cause we’re still trying to learn to hit the ball - hah!
- The coolest video store ever! A huge place that specializes in hard-to-find and independent films. So many gems there!
- The Chris & Ben home renovation show!! We couldn’t have pulled everything together around here so quickly without these two. Boundless energy, handyman skills and purveyors of power tools - yessss! They came for a visit and left our place in better shape than when they arrived: new storage shelves, installing an overhead light, fixing our futon, picking up a load of furniture from Sussex along the way, and countless other little details & fixes. YOU GUYS ROCK!
-Peggy’s Cove - what a fun afternoon with Pamela and Clinton. Kinda neat to see such an iconic sight with your own eyes and as it’s only a half hour away from I’m sure we’ll be taking everyone that comes for a visit. No trip to the Maritimes would be complete without a picture of that lighthouse!
