A Quick Trip into Saskatchewan
Published: July 24th 2010North America » Canada » Saskatchewan » Moose JawNeither of us had ever been to Saskatchewan. We had several days off and it was only about 60 miles away, so why not. We decided we would go up to Regina, the provincial capital and the second largest city in the province (after Saskatoon), and on the way we would visit Moose Jaw. We intended to just drive through Moose Jaw and continue on to Regina, but Moose Jaw turned out to be an interesting-looking little resort town, so we decided to spend the night and check it out. We found a nice campsite in a city park just across the river from town and settled in. The town has a very colorful history as a wide-open center for bootleggers, gangsters, crooked cops, and speakeasies, and during the prohibition era was a major hub for ... read more
Ideally preparations would be almost finished by now... but I guess I'm not ideal. Mandy, my travel buddy, and I have been busy attempting to find wardrobes suited to both Kenya and Northern Europe (not an easy task!), raise our funds, finalize plans and reassure our mothers that we'll be quite safe on our travels. My biggest concern at the moment is that I won't have enough room on my camera for all of my pictures- there may, however, be more important issues at hand! Until next time!... read more

We got a good head start on the storm this morning. It had definitely snowed the forecasted 10 cm or more. We thought the wind might get up and give us poor visibility so we were gone by 8:30. The trip was uneventful which is good. Tomorrow we will plan to be at the airport by 9:30 as my flight is scheduled for 11:25 am. The internet connection at this hotel is poor so I’ll have to get this update published tomorrow when I get to Toronto. Until then… ... read more
We made it to the airport. Now that Todd knows that Larry C is here he felt it was OK for him to go. If I thought the weather was bad yesterday, it was nothing compared to today. Our flight has not been canceled, but we’re not off the ground yet. I took a picture out the front window that I will post once I get to Toronto….... read more
First our flight was delayed and then it was cancelled. This weather it not supposed to let up until around midnight. We have re-booked for tomorrow morning @ 6:35 and it will depend if the corresponding flight from Toronto can land in Regina when it is supposed to. If all goes well, Larry C will pick me up @ 4:30 am and we will start the entire process again. We are both looking at this experience as practice for delays that can happen while travelling in Ghana. I will try to relax and get a good night's sleep tonight as I will have a VERY early morning tomorrow.... read more
I leave tomorrow, if the weather permits
Published: January 23rd 2010North America » Canada » Saskatchewan » CarnduffThe radio tells me that this area of the country (Southeast Saskatchewan) is expecting heavy snowfall and high winds. It's been like walking on a skating rink today just to get around on the sidewalks. We plan to drive to Regina tomorrow and stay overnight so I can be at the airport 90 minutes before my flight which is around 11:00 am Sunday. I will do an update tomorrow night once we get to Regina.... read more
It may seem like a small thing to most people however this is the day I try to finalize what I am going to take with me on my trip. I need to make sure all my health/travel documents and credit union reference material is accounted for. I'll decide what I will take on my carry on bags on the flight to Toronto. This week will be a string of "lasts". This morning was the last Sunday morning breakfast at home before my trip. I want tomake sure I send links to my blog to people that I think might want to follow my experience. The weather forcast for travelling to Regina on Saturday in not good. Rain/snow and temperatures around the freezing mark. Perhaps it will change in the next few days. I hope so... ... read more
