RobSad and sitting in the airport due to the delay.
I left Regina, Saskatchewan Sunday for a holiday and family visit that would bring me to the Balkans, and in particularly Serbia, a place no less than 8 years ago NATO bombed under the Milosevic regime. I am excited to see a new part of the world, to visit my aunt and uncle who i haven't seen in 7 years, to meet new friends and have a few brews...yes, a few.
Leaving the airport in Regina was not signficant, everything was normal other than a little snow. Although the young man that sat beside me on the plane was pretty strange, he proceeded to swear lots and at high volume despite the fact we were surrounded by small children...somewhat awkward.
Once I arrived in Toronto I saw that 300 cancellations had taken place due to a snowstorm (wasn't that bad, Ontarians should move to the Prairies for a winter). So I figured I may be waiting, while the flight was only delayed for 1 1/2 hours, we boarded the plane and my hopes were high to get in the air and get to Europe...however while sitting in the plane the captain announced that the left engine was malfunctioning, YAY!!!
So we sat for 2 hours while they fixed whatever was wrong with the left engine, well i guess better fixing it rather than going down over the cold Atlantic. After they fixed the engine, they told us over the intercom that next up the plane had to be de-iced because it was sitting for too long, so another 1/2 hour for that...and we were on our way.
The flight from Toronto to Munich wasn't too bad, I slept for 5 or 6 of the 8 hours, so it flew by. I also sat beside a woman who was born in Germany but now living in Toronto (she was probably 30), and she was funny and it also made the flight go by really quickly. She also let me eat one of her plums, cuz i was hungry. haha.
I arrived in Munich, very nice airport, somewhat like a shopping mall. However due to the flight delay in Toronto I missed my flight by quite a bit, went to the Lufthansa desk and they hooked me up with another flight to Belgrade, so all was good.
On the 1 1/2 hour flight from Munich to Belgrade, i sat beside a chemical engineer who lived in Germany, but was born in Greece and studied at Cambridge in England, yes quite a combo. He was very interesting and knowledgable, we talked about politics, futbol (soccer), and both of our travels. That flight however was not so good due to the fact of the non-stop crying baby behind me, screaming and screaming, ahhhhhhhhhhhhh...and she was kicking my chair the whole flight. I sucked it up, turned on the Ipod to drown out the crying and continued my chatting.
Thankfully, I arrived in Belgrade, however one of my luggage bags i was told was still in Munich, hopefully tomorrow I can get it....but until then I am soaking up the Canadian embassy, the mansion that my uncle and aunt live in, the nice Benz and chauffeur that picked me up at the airport, the security guards all over, the butler that opens the door for me, or the 2 chefs that cook for me... and of course all my aunts cats and dogs (my aunt has started somewhat of a humane society for abandoned animals here). The travel part wasn't so good, but now that I'm here, cannot wait to get out and about.
