Montreal is an island and a city. The Metro is well situated and all 68 stations are beautifully presented with art work in them all. The Metro was completed in 1966 in time for Expo 67 and the centenary of Canadian Confederation. The Olympic site from 1976 is still as breathtaking as ever. The Velodrome has been turned into a Biosphere where you can see and smell penguins ... among other things. In the downtown area can be found a quarter sized replica of Notre Dame. I've now finished off the skiing part of my trip in Mont Tremblant and I have to admit that I was sad to leave the mountain today. Since San Francisco, I have done 4 more days of skiing - one with Jon at the weekend and then three on my own in conditions varying from rain (!?) and slush to amazing blue skies with fresh snow overnight for today. Beautiful!! Jon gave me my end of season skiing exam on Saturday and I passed (not that he had much choice). Cette fois, je vous emmène faire un tour du village de Puvirnituq. En partant de chez moi, si je prends à gauche, j'arrive à l'aéroport, à environ 1.5km au nord. Muni d'une piste d'environ 5000 pieds et d'un petit bâtiment d'où on peut voir les départs et arrivées en regardant par la fenêtre, c'est un endroit intéressant à cause de la proximité de tout. Spring is around the corner! And guess what that means…spring training! After an amazing summer, I crashed and burned down the summer homestretch to find myself out of playoff contention. Probably, the most bizarre thing about the last conclusory episode of Volume II of "Memoirs of a Gaijin" is that it lacked a conlusion. Unlike the year before there was no grand sweeping statements to be found to summarize the learning of the adventure, point towards the future and justify my ways to man. I have found my winter sport. I left Australia all excited to go to Canada, with dreams and plans of learning how to be the world's best skier/snowboarder/any type of winter sports person. I mean, being so close to snow and everything, you kind of just have to do it. No wasted opportunities, et cetera, et cetera.
