Background: A land of vast distances and rich natural resources, Canada became a self-governing dominion in 1867 while retaining ties to the British crown. Economically and technologically the nation has developed in parallel with the US, its neighbor to the south across an unfortified border. Canada's paramount political problem is meeting public demands for quality improvements in health care and education services after a decade of budget cuts. The issue of reconciling Quebec's francophone heritage with the majority anglophone Canadian population has moved to the back burner in recent years; support for separatism abated after the Quebec government's referendum on independence failed to pass in October of 1995.

Time to go back to good old Canada.. We drove to Montreal, my 2nd visit there. Of course Mat wanted to see old Montreal and downtown too, two areas that I already visited, but they're nice enough too visit them twice, especially old Montreal. Besides that we've seen some things that were also new for me too.. We've seen Parc Mont Royal, which offers also an amazing view over the rest of the city, especially by night. Furthermore we've visited The Olympic Parc and the University of Montreal. Particularly the last one was nice to see.. Wow, I would have loved [View Full Entry]

Haha, and I thought that Montreal was typically French.. Nothing compared to Quebec! There are even people over there who don't speak English at all, despite the fact that it's one of the official languages of Canada. But okay, many people in the English part don't speak French either. This is a bit like an everlasting quarrel, in which of course the English part has the most power. As I've heard the French part would like to be separated from the English part, but then they would want to have Montreal too, where by now also a lot of English speaking [View Full Entry]

This is my first entry in this wonderful blog of mine which I will be updating a few times a week from now on. This will be my first long term backpacking trip and I am planning to cross the planet overland (I'll take flights only accross oceans) for 12 months or until money runs out. I like overland travel because it gives a better oportunity to go to places you wouldn't see if you just took the plane from capital to capital. My current itinerary is as follow: Canada 1 week, Hong Kong/Macau 1 week, Philippines 3 weeks, China 2 [View Full Entry]

OK... so this did not actually happen on 6/6/6 (August 6 to be exact). I bought this 'doll' for my sister many years ago. Since then, it has haunted many minds. Creeeeeeeepy...... As you will see... the bear is now an empty soul, looking for its next victim. RE RE RE RE RE (scary music sound). [View Full Entry]

Rieccoci...
