Background: A land of vast distances and rich natural resources, Canada became a self-governing dominion in 1867 while retaining ties to the British crown. Economically and technologically the nation has developed in parallel with the US, its neighbor to the south across an unfortified border. Canada's paramount political problem is meeting public demands for quality improvements in health care and education services after a decade of budget cuts. The issue of reconciling Quebec's francophone heritage with the majority anglophone Canadian population has moved to the back burner in recent years; support for separatism abated after the Quebec government's referendum on independence failed to pass in October of 1995.

Montreal at Night
Montreal at Night
The building on the right is the actual tallest one in Montreal
Its 3am, I'm drunk and the wind is blowing through my hair (I need a haircut), I'm about 2m from a huge speaker, and those city lights are twinkling below me. The overriding thoughts running through my head are, Montreal is awesome, exchange rocks and where can I get a kebab. I'm on top of the 2nd tallest building in Montreal, I though it was the highest, that attractive Dane girl was right damn it, and I can see Montreal laid before me all dressed up in lights. There is something beautiful about a city at night, especially when you are [View Full Entry]

I am currently in Quebec City, a very cute old European city in Canada. The French settled here in the 1600s and then migrated to Montreal prior to losing a war the the English. Hence the French speaking people in the middle of North America. The province is the prettiest place I have seen since I have arrived here. Quebec City is like being in France and Montreal is very European Cosmopolitan style. Yesterday I went Jet Boating though the rapids of the St Lawrence River in Montreal. IT WAS AMAZING!! I had 2 army style woollen jumpers with a plastic [View Full Entry]

Making work fun

North America » Canada » Quebec » Montréal
In August, I had to go up to Lebanon, NH for some meetings. Me being me, I couldn't just do the meetings, so I planned a few things before and after them. The nite before the meeting, a group of us attended a Red Sox game at fabled Fenway Park. To anyone who likes baseball, this park is a must see, right up there with Wrigley Field. The weekend after the meeting, another group of us headed north to Montreal for the weekend. A great place to visit and a genuinely unique experience. This was the first trip where I really [View Full Entry]

Hello from Quebec City. This place is amazing, although the computer is different so it is taking me awhile to type this. I am staying at Chateau Bellevue, which is in the heart of the old city. It is an average room but what it lacks in charm it definately makes up for in location. I am finding that more people speak english here, probably because it's mostly tourists, and they are all so helpful & friendly. It's great to hear news from home, pity it was sad news about Steve Irwin, but it's good to hear from all of you. [View Full Entry]

Well, I know it has been a long time between drinks but there is no computer where I am staying at my Uncle's so he, very kindly, brought me over to Fernande's son's house so I can use their computer. I am in Laval, Montreal, Quebec. It is beautiful but a little intimidating as I most of the people speak french & all the signs are in French (guess that will be good practise for when I am in Europe & cannot read anything for 21 days....lol) The last time I left you I had just arrived in Toronto. WOW!! That [View Full Entry]
