Economically and technologically the nation has developed in parallel with the US, its neighbor to the south across an unfortified border. Canada's paramount political problem is meeting public demands for quality improvements in health care and education services after a decade of budget cuts. The issue of reconciling Quebec's francophone heritage with the majority anglophone Canadian population has moved to the back burner in recent years; support for separatism abated after the Quebec government's referendum on independence failed to pass in October of 1995.

Really good day

Tim: Today has been a good day. We took a metro down to the Biodome and went over to the Giles Villneave circuit, the home of Canadian Formula 1. Mount Royal

Tom: Overlooking Montreal there is a large 3 "peaked" hill called Mount Royal, which the clever people in wiki-land inform us gave the city it's name. So having been promised a postcard view we headed for the hills. Montreal, meine neue Stadt. Am 29.April sollte es eigentlich losgehen, dachte ich zumindestens. Mein erster Tag begann gegen Mittag und sollte sich als unerwartete Stadterkundung hervorheben d.h. viel laufen. Ichsollte naemlich meine Miete zu unserem vermieter bringen, der hat sein Buero nur leider nicht bei uns um die Ecke, wie ich dachte sondern am aussersten gegenueberliegenden Ende von Downtown.
