Québec City Travel Blogs

Background: A land of vast distances and rich natural resources, Canada became a self-governing dominion in 1867 while retaining ties to the British crown. Economically and technologically the nation has developed in parallel with the US, its neighbor to the south across an unfortified border. Canada's paramount political problem is meeting public demands for quality improvements in health care and education services after a decade of budget cuts. The issue of reconciling Quebec's francophone heritage with the majority anglophone Canadian population has moved to the back burner in recent years; support for separatism abated after the Quebec government's referendum on independence failed to pass in October of 1995.

is oollllldddd and extremely loud as EVERYTHING seems to be under construction. I toured the Governor-General's residence at the Citadel, the old fort that protects the entrance to the rest of the river. Learned a lot about Canada's government from a very helpful guide, I was the only one on the tour. Anyway I have some more pics up, just a few from camping, Montreal and Quebec. http://picasaweb.google.com/wired1000/IMLeavingMontreal [View Full Entry]

On the drive to Quebec, somewhere between the U.S. border and Montreal, we stopped off at a McDonald's for a quick dinner. We got a few funny looks because there probably aren't too many Chinese people in that area.  It's not something completely unusual, so I got over it quick. At the McDonald's, some tour bus dropped off a bus full of kids.  This one kid in particular was waiting in line in front of us. He turned around, sees us through his camera, and started speaking to us in French.  We asked him to speak in English since we couldn't [View Full Entry]

My saddest sad face, fixing a tire.
Fredericton was very good to us. We washed ourselves, and our sleeping bags, and everything felt very nice as we climbed out of town. We were off, 500km to Quebec city. About 70 km into our first day out of Fredericton, at precisely the same time as it started to poor with rain, I hit a rock, that popped my innertube, and wrecked my tire as well. We have lots of spare tubes, and a spare tire as well, so it didnt slow us down too much. We finished in Woodstock, where we had originally planned. We camped under a [View Full Entry]

[View Full Entry]

Yuppee! This weekend was jam-packed with exciting events and stories. On Thursday night we went out to celebrate a few birthday's that were happening here and someone suggested that we start the night off at the worst bar ever! This bar was soooo bad, it actually deserves a paragraph of its own... Jen and Denean, you may remember our experience in Sydney on May 28th (Denean's Birthday) where we went to the Spectrum to dance, then later discovered that it was heavy metal night:S Well..this situation was very similar. It was called L'Audace (more like la ass) and it costed 12$ [View Full Entry]

Wow! Surprisingly I have had unexpected requests about the absence of frequent entries into my travel blog. Now, before you all gain an unworthy amount of respect for me, you should know that most of these requests came from my family. The truth is I am sooo busy these days that I have to plan my blog-writing time accordingly. Nonetheless, a lot has happened in the last week and a half and I will now spill the beans about my current affairs. Monday morning was our first day of school :) We were brought to the caféteria where we were [View Full Entry]
