What a change in weather!
This winter has been a terrible one all over I think: I have heard about ridiculous amounts of snow and the coldest days in almost 20 years from family in Montreal, record breaking cold in Toronto, terrible storms in the maritimes, horrific wind chills across the prairies, crazy low temperatures all over USA and even non stop rain for weeks in Mexico. It seems that in North America only Florida has had any semblance of normal weather in the last month or so, and even Florida saw some really cold days and more storms compared with what is normal for them. We are lucky to have been in Florida this past little while! Just as the weather dipped down again in Fort Pierce last week we hopped in the car and headed home to take care of some personal things. We had many things to bring home as well- Caribee is pretty much stripped of everything she doesn't need to continue the journey to Anguilla now. The car should be pretty light going back down this time!
We were lucky to be traveling around the storms in the northern USA and our drive was
smooth and uneventful. We were also lucky to arrive when the cold broke in Montreal, and the temperature has not been much below freezing so far. This will change in a day or two, but it's been a good run up till now. For the last two days it has been snowing very lightly. Yesterday some of the snowflakes were almost as big as quarters and I was so excited looking out the window- this was my Christmas snow I missed a few weeks ago! The perfect cotton-like fluffs falling gently past my window. I know some readers are quite sick of any white stuff at this point, but since I have not had to shovel it this season I am still happy to see it! When I have to dig out another layer of clothing from the bins in the basement to go outside in a day or two maybe I won't be as amused. The downside is that we both caught some virus a day or so after we got here that knocked us out and has delayed what we came here to do. Luckily we recovered in time to host my mom's birthday party last night- it
was a really fun evening and it was wonderful to see family and friends. Today is a bit slow... putting the house back in place and getting ready for some productivity tomorrow. We have to get on track and figure out when we will return to Caribee.
It has been so nice to be in our home again, it is easy to forget how beautiful it is when we are not there to see it. I have been enjoying being surrounded by all the 100 + year old wood, enjoying the fireplace, relaxing in my antique cast iron claw foot tub, taking pride in the light fixtures we chose and the details we were careful with everywhere, and enjoying our amazing kitchen.... what fun to cook on the powerful six burner gas stove compared with Caribee's little two burner propane stove. We truly have a beautiful home- we did a great job. How funny to think that the space we now live in is about the size of our bathroom here! It shows that people need far less than they actually have to be happy, at least people like us do. Caribee is obviously cramped quarters in comparison, but
she is all the space we really need. I must admit though that walking to the next room in private to have a shower or do laundry instead of walking minutes down the dock is nice, and the dishwasher is spoiling me too! It is fun to be home, but we have to get back. It is sad to leave family again when I just got here, but the faster I leave the faster I continue on to complete our journey and find what there is in store for us at the other end. We still await our direction in life... this journey has taken longer than expected and has lead us places we didn't expect to go. We have had so many experiences and met so many great people along the way but we still have not finished what we started out to do. And so we will work on our projects, pay a visit to Mako and make sure her tarp is sound, and enjoy what time we have left here in the winter part of the world before we head back to face our future!
Here are some pictures of our place.
