So instead of writing all the minute details of every trip I take I think I'll make this more of a photo journal. Life as a student is hectic to say the least, so I'll post my photos and give some explanations here and there! Sound good? Great!
My friend Aias and I wanted to do something fun for the fourth of July weekend this year. We originally thought of driving to Chicago, hear some good blues and explore the city. I had never been before so it sounded like a great plan. One night I got a message from him saying "Instead of a 14-hour drive to Chicago, how about a 6-hour one to Montreal?" I was even more excited about that suggestion, even considering I would be out of the country for the Fourth (yet again!)
With a little trouble with directions we made it to Montreal around 2am Friday morning. The rest of the weekend went really smoothly. The International Jazz Festival was going on so we got to hear amazing music anyway. There were artsy demonstrations going on all over the place, we stopped in at the contemporary art museum and were finally able to drink
a beer on the street while exploring the festival (Oh, the little pleasures in life).
The city really was beautiful. I can barely describe the architecture (and I love good architecture). It seemed to have a best of American, or North American, cities and the best of European cities all together. We simply just walked around enjoying the sights.
The last night was really fantastic. We went to an amazing Portuguese tapas restaurant, had some excellent wine, made friends with a really great waiter, and then went off to a blues bar we found the day before. There was a great act going on, one of the main acts from the festival doing a gig at this small bar. It was really amazing. We actually found a couple seats in the fully packed venue, had some drinks and sang some songs, then called it a night.
