Montreal
We arrvied in Montreal after a 5 hour train journey through snow covered country side. After a solid mission with all our stuff we arrived at our hotel. It was very cutie, but kinda situated in the red light area and was above a sex shop... turns out it had hourly rates... :o) It was probably about -15 or -20 when we got there.
Our first day in Montreal was really sunny, and we spent all day walking around checking out the sights, including cruising up to the top of Mont Royal. It was interesting cos there were tonnes of people out snow shoeing and cross country skiing. It's pretty amazing seeing how people are just totally used to living with so much snow.
We spent our other days in Montreal checking out the city. Montreal has a really cool vibe, and has lots of cool shops and cafes. It also has a massive underground shopping network (the largest in the world - not surprisingly we wound up totally lost...) Montreal also has a historic quarter on the waterfront that we checked out along with several museums.
Quebec City
A couple of our fellow backpacker
mates informed us that this year is the 400th birthday of Quebec City, the oldest city in North America, and that there was a carnival on to celebrate. So we bussed over to Quebec City for a night and checked it out. Unfortunately our timing wasn't so smooth, and the only carnival event on while we were there was a corporate lunch. However, we had a blast just checking out the city and its sights. We stayed inside the old city walls, which was really cool - it kind of felt like we were inside a small french village. It was also cool watching the ferries and ships manage their way through the ice covered St Lawerence River.
After Quebec City we cruised back to Montreal for a night, before flying out super early to sunny Cuba.
