We set off from our comfortable hostel in Quebec city on our less comfortable bike seats for a day of riding. It was an awesome day with no hills and Brad was very happy to reach a new record for average speed over the course of our day; 23.2 BIG kms. We were kicking ass so much we decided that maybe we'd conquer even more than our typical 100kms...and then the rain came. And it meant buisness. Sheet lightening flashed like we were in a photoshoot, the lightening looking like camera flashes and the streets were flooded quicker than we could communicate our horror to eachother. We found shelter in a gas station small engine shop where we hid out waiting for the rain to stop. It didn't. When is didnt the mechanic invited us to stay under his covered car port for the night. We moved his ATVs from under it, set up our tent, and made the neccessary set-up step. Then the rain stopped and the sun came blazing. Of course.
We woke up the next morning to "Bonjour!! Allo!" and we invited into the mechanic's house by his wife for some breakfast. It was a great way
to start a day. We ended up in Yamaska (we wondered how we had made it all the way to China) and camped out in a John Dear dealership and took in a sunset over Kraft Dinner.
Coming into Montreal the next day was not an easy task. There were many big mean signs that resrcited bicycles, and we couldn't even play the dumb English card because they were picture signs, not written ones. We were constantly informed that we could suddenly not continue on the road we were on, and we were clueless to any alternate routes. When we finally made it to the Jaques Cartier bridge I think we must have done at least 17 hundred laps around the surrounding area before we somehow made it into the city.
So we were in the city, our troubles must be over, right? No, Montreal didn't make any more sense than it's neighbour and we were terribly lost even with my Auntie's seeminly basic directions. Luckily, we were spotted looking at our map by a friendly local who asked us where we were going. When we told him our destination he said "Follow me!" and he took us to the
door step of my Auntie Sylvie's house. NOW we had made it.
