Hey everyone! Welcome to my blog - this will be a short one. I'm half-way through my first year at Dalhousie Medical School. Its everything you would expect - interesting, intense, occassionally overwhelming, and much more!
I completed my first elective in Anaesthesia and got to witness so many amazing surgeries - mostly heart surgeries, everything from quadruple bipasses to valve replacements, but also some cosmetic surgeries, including face lift, breast implant & reconstruction, eyelid lift/chin tuck and jaw reconstruction. All of these were way more invasive than I had expected, its amazing that people can recover and actually look better than they did before!
My class is an amazing collection of very diverse people that all mesh together seemlessly! Overall we are pretty good at balancing school with party time. Our first major exam went very well, but the biggest one is coming up January 17th!
I'm heading back to Halifax tommorow after a great Holiday season at home on PEI, it was so fantastic to spend some quality time with family and friends, so many people I hadn't seen in ages!!
Next travel plans are this coming Friday (Jan 5th), when most of my class will be flying to Montreal for the weekend to participate in 'Med Games', like Canada Games for medical students from across the country, but really just a good excuse to meet as many med students as you can and party hardy!! In February, I'll be sticking around Halifax all month and taking in lots of the East Coast Music Awards. We have our spring break in March, so that gives another travel opportunity, but no plans for it as of yet. There's also a MUN-Dal spring conference weekend in Newfoundland I may attend, but mostly I'll be planning my big trip to Africa in June!!
I hope you all enjoyed the holiday season and I wish you health and happiness in 2007!! Keep in touch!
