It’s the five week countdown which translates into tying up my loose ends. One of the main issues I need to tackle is getting my health in order. I had my doctor’s appointment this morning where I feel everything was taken care of. Here’s my current checklist:
-Malaria Pills: Annoying pills you have to take daily to prevent developing this long-term disease which symptoms include vommitting, fever…which sounds really similar to the possible side effects of the anti-malaria medication. I guess Malaria takes the gold because it includes convulsions and a possible lethality about it.
-Hepatitis Vaccinations: Needles we all had to endure back in grade 7 in our lovely cold hearted gymnasiums. Well that was 11 years ago so it may be time to for a refill. I had a needle this morning to check if it’s all kosher or not. If it isn’t then I have to return not once, no no, I have to return TWICE to get a vaccination. This first time will be this week. Yes, needle-phobic Bria may just have to get two needles in one week. I am doing it for the sake of my gypsy traveling soul.
-Chill Pill: Little tiny pills you put under your tongue which releases chemicals that stops your body from entering into panic mode. You know, when you heart is beating faster than a locomotive, your breathing is out of whack and there is a distinct feeling of impending doom. Flying brings that out in me. I flew eleven times in 2008, but my mind and body still haven’t warmed up to flying. I’m claustrophobic so the thought of being trapped in a small metal box (i.e. the airplane) even right now makes my palms sweat.
The pill they give me is called Lorazepam. Which makes me think of the delicious almond paste dessert that is sold in abundance in Toledo, Spain. It is a beautiful pill that does not allow me to panic (minus the stomach knots) and also allows me to do something I never was able to do on a plane - sleep!
Next on the list - eye appointment
