INTRODUCING YOU TO DORIS BUMSTEAD:
In the summer of 2007, Doris Bumstead of The Coldwater Shuffleboard Club in Ontario returned from Louisville, KY with a Gold Medal for her outstanding performance at the US National Senior Games. Coldwater is a small town north of Toronto, small but with a very successful Shuffleboard Club.
Doris first learned to play shuffleboard in 1997 in Lakeland, Florida where she competed in the Senior Games for about 6 years. The top 5 players in each category at the District level qualify to play in the State games which in the summer of 2007 were held in Cape Coral, FL.
The top 3 players qualify to play in the National Senior Games which are held every two years and in different areas of the United States.
The National Games lasted two weeks with approx. 12,000 contestants in 40 different sports. Doris actually competed for 2 days, competing against 22 contestants divided into 4 pools and they played round robin which was 4 games each with the top 2 in each pool going on to the finals which was another 3 games. The National Senior Games are referred to as "Senior Olympics”.
