Canada or Canadia as I think it should be called has been great so far. Crossing the boarder not only added another stamp to my passport but introduced me to the most contradictory place that I think I have ever seen. Niagara Falls is one of the most spectacular things that I have ever seen but the land surrounding it was not declared as a national park so there is revoulting development on each side, particularly the candaian side as the water spills over into Canada from the States. Imagine the tackiest place you have ever seen, doucle it and then put some waterfalls near it. That is what Niagara Falls (Canada) is like. Depiste this, as we were in Canada and the under agers were now legal, we had to make it out to the ... read more

Well, hello all. I am now in Toronto. I left Vancouver this morning at 10am and because of the 3 hour time difference I arrived at 5:30 pm. The flight was uneventful. I watched Mission Impossible 3, that was ok, but mum, you'd hate it, it has Tom Cruise. I got stuck in a bloody middle seat so I couldn't even sleep. Oh well, it's 8:40pm now, I have the computer for 1 hour so by the time I get to bed it will be around 10:30. I don't really have set plans here but I am excited to explore the city and see what comes up. I am going to Niagra Falls on Wednesday, that will be an all day trip. I can't see any leads at this computer to do my photo's though so ... read more

I will admit this is a bit of a summary entry. Its kind of strange because i spent the longest time in Toronto compared with any other city but probablly took the least photos. Toronto is a great city. Huge and beautiful on a sunny day not so much fun when its raining. I stayed in a brilliant hostel in Kensington Market which has a mix of students, artists, druggies and hippies. It reminded me a lot of Fremantle. It was also on the edge of China town which made for some interesting shopping and experiences. I did the Royal Ontario Museum, the Art Gallery of Ontario for an excellent Andy Warhol exhibition, the Hockey Hall of Fame - and I will admit the only bit of information I actually retained was that Tim Horton was ... read more

Made a last minute decision to dive across the border to Canada for the weekend. Influenced by the shattering of our illusion that the Great Lakes were of similar beauty to the Lake District (in fact they are unbelievably industrial) and also that we can legally drink there. Stayed in Toronto in a cute little hostel downtown and had a pretty relaxing weekend seeing the city and sampling the nightlife. Went on a hostel pub crawl only to duck out at the second bar, as we found an cool live band. Stayed till the early hours to listen and get free drinks from the band who thought it was awesome we were from Manchester. Left Toronto on Monday evening for Chicago, on an overnight Greyhound (actually quite a plush bus). Had been warned that the experience ... read more

After a Mission Impossible III and Dodge Ball double bill on the plane journey we arrived in Toronto, slightly dis-orientated thanks to the time difference. A short bus journey into the city centre and we arrived at our hostel - the Global Village Backpackers. Hmmm interesting. The hostel in clean and we had our own private room which was decorated in a 'Rolling Stones' theme (leopard skin bed cover - nice) but we are clearly 10 years older than everyone!! Not to worry. We had a few beers and tried not let that bother us. Got an early night only to be woken up at 530am when the rest of the hostel decided to go to bed. Next day we signed up for the Magic bus - a tour company running trips to the Niagara Falls. ... read more

Hey now! This past weekend Hope and I jetted to Toronto for the 10th annual Toronto Beer Fest. We left late afternoon Friday and I drove the Mustang, top down, while Hope dreamt about being with the SC pose off champion. Shampoo confiscating borders, QEW accidents, and rush hour traffic cramped our style, but we eventually made it to the Sutton Place Hotel. (By the way, border agents don’t seem to care for me, it may have something to do with my olive skin and passport photo***photo down due to terrorism warnings, for real***, see below.) The hotel was decent and its location excellent. We met up with our friends Storm and Amanda (I’ve played alongside of Storm in several bands since our days back at the UM). Amanda is a Canadian connoisseur and citizen. She ... read more

Saturday was another big day of racing. We ended up 10th in the 500m race, which was of course not the same as first, but whatever. We had a good race and felt good about it. The 2000m race was scheduled originally for Thursday, but they moved it to Sunday night at the last minute and a few members of our team were flying out on Sunday morning, so they let us race with the men on Saturday. We weren't expecting much but we ended up getting EIGTH out of all the mens crews!! It was awesome. We had a great race. That was definately the highlight of our weekend. will add more pics soon... ... read more
