Today Leith flew in from Halifax on Porter Airlines. Jenn, Lindsay and I wandered Union Station but most of their stores were closed. We did manage to get some yummy Starbucks and Lindsay had to squash her craving for Cinnabon…that stuff will kill you will all the butter they use! But at least you’ll die happy! So we finally went to the main Union Station building. They have the names of cities that the VIA trains used to stop at except when they built that building it was back when Thunder Bay was known as Fort William and Port Arthur and that’s what’s carved on the wall. As we’re sitting there and waiting one of the funniest things happened. A guy with an umbrella was sitting a good 20 feet across from us with his umbrella on his lap. Lindsay ended up making eye contact with the man who was about 60 years old. Lindsay then turns to us and says….”Hey guys OMG that guy sitting there made eye contact with me and shook his head! Then when I looked around at who he was doing that too I made a confused face knowing it was me but wondering what I
did wrong. Then after I looked back at him in disgust and confusion he mouthed the word…stupid! And he did it all drawn out like…Stuuuupid.” Lindsay was disturbed and the poor girl was actually hurt by that random person…this reaction caused us to laugh hysterically. She kept trying to get us to look at the guy to see if he would end up doing the same thing to us…hahaha we TOTALLY refused…hey we didn’t want to be called stupid!!! Hahah. So Leith finally arrives and Lindsay being the fun goofy girl she is calls out “HI DADDY!” haha Leith just shook his head. We then headed to the car and put his duffle bag in there. You think there wouldn’t be room for 4 in the Kia Soul well put it this way…it’s a tight fit but it’s doable…IF you’re not crazy shopping. We could have put a roof rack thingy on the car but nahhhh we’ve got packing down to an art! We then took some great shots of the car with the CN Tower in the background. Traffic was kinda crazy still with Caribana still kinda going on. We missed the parade and crazy crowds downtown…which actually means
we missed the shooting. Yaaa it made headlines…a guy with a gun was asked 6 times by police officers to drop his weapon and he wouldn’t do it so the cops had to shoot him and ended up killing him. Kinda crazy stuff…good thing we weren’t downtown for that. We got Leith caught up over lunch at Baton Rouge Restaurant in the Eaton Center then went to the McDonald’s where they have free WiFi woo and booked our hotel and mapped out our food drive route. For dinner that night we met up with my friends Ken and Barb at a restaurant called Joey which is at 1 Dundas just down from the Eaton Center…HIGHLY recommended! Except for the long hike to the downstairs bathroom the food is delicious and the atmosphere is cool! Lindsay ran into a girl that used to work with her who is from Thuder Bay! Then when we left the restauraunt we were walking down the street and she ended up running into ANOTHER friend from Thunder Bay! Crazy stuff lol. My friend Ken had a guy go up to him and say he was hungry and he gave him the food that I didn’t
touch and said he could have the sandwich but instead he gave it to the homeless man…that was SO sweet. It shows you JUST how much hunger affects us!! Even those that aren’t homeless could be struggling to put food on the table…..we all need to make a habit of donating monthly to a food bank. Wouldn’t that be an amazing make that promise! One thing I know for sure is that the appreciation at the food banks is immense and that’s what warms our hearts and is the best part of this trip!
