Niagara Falls Travel Blogs

Background: A land of vast distances and rich natural resources, Canada became a self-governing dominion in 1867 while retaining ties to the British crown. Economically and technologically the nation has developed in parallel with the US, its neighbor to the south across an unfortified border. Canada's paramount political problem is meeting public demands for quality improvements in health care and education services after a decade of budget cuts. The issue of reconciling Quebec's francophone heritage with the majority anglophone Canadian population has moved to the back burner in recent years; support for separatism abated after the Quebec government's referendum on independence failed to pass in October of 1995.

Very early start Going to Niagara Falls That's lots of water! Well, I managed to get up early, wash up, pack up and even had a sit down breakfast. Even taking my time I had plenty of time on my hands to browse the aisles at the grocery store and wait for my train. Being 7:30/7:45 in the morning at the grocery store who'd think that there'd be a line up to check out? lol I guess I didn't have on my "angry, don't disturb me or sit beside me" face on this morning. First I was in the line up [View Full Entry]

The first morning that we woke up in Niagara we discovered that our hostel was only five minutes walk from the falls, we had to walk through the (tacky) town to get there, but we were there quickly . The town (at least on the Canadian side) is very Blackpool-like, with some really silly attractions that re just there to make money. However the falls are great and on the first day we went on the Maid of the Mist boat ride. We both really enjoyed this. Afterward we went for a drink and Elaine got really upset, she said she [View Full Entry]

To Niagara North America » Canada » Ontario » Niagara Falls
Early morning on Sunday the 9th of October we got a train for Niagara falls, it was meant to be a nine hour trip. With hindsight we probably should have looked for a greyhound bus because the train took a long way round to reach Niagara, and we probably could have got there quicker by bus. Anyway, we just wanted out of New York and as soon as the train left the station we were both feeling better. I think this helped Elaine even more, she had hated it so much in New York that just the train chugging out of [View Full Entry]

Hi again.......I hope u all miss me by now, hahaha. Well i must say that i have been a busy boy lately. School is going well and i have been away for the weekends. On the 18th we went off to Niagra falls. The falls are abosultely breath-taking but the area around it is very commercial, sort of like a mini mini las vegas (although there was a town called niagra on the lake which was quite a charming little place with vineyards and old victorian style houses). Nevertheless the falls were cool, especially the boat that takes u out right [View Full Entry]

Hello all Well, we have been in Canada for 2 days now... (thats counting the 1 day of plane travel) and its very lovely here in O Canada. The people are a lot friendly than the americans and the country is very NZ looking so reminds me of home alot. Cept there are cute little chipmunks and racoons and squirrels!! (which i am on a hunt to locate and make friends with :) and the 12 lane highways). Since we rushed our last email, i will now finish what we started about Hawaii. We decided on the last day to snorkel [View Full Entry]

Just paid a visit to the 'better' side of the falls. It's great to see that the Amerians haven't claimed this great attraction. The American side is not quite as spectacular. It was really quite amazing and the start of a whirlwind trip through Ontario and into Montreal. The falls are amazing and something that is a must see if someone is in this part of the world. A weekend is sufficient time to check out all the happenings though. The rest of the place is just one big tourist trap and resembles a Las Vegas style night scene (which includes [View Full Entry]

Niagara by night

Niagara Falls Buffulo New York, was a fairly tired looking, run down looking town. A kilometer away in Canada its like Las Vegas, nice buildings and streets, lookouts, casinos, the people looked happier.... generally much much nicer.... maybe the United States felt that since Niagara had all the excitement stitched up they felt it would be a waste of money to try and compete?? So they basically let their side of the Falls ......... fall down! The tour company had learnt from previous experience that it is not a good idea to take the bus over the bridge to Canada. On [View Full Entry]

Niagara Falls
Mist
on our way to Niagara Falls

We had a 9.15am start this morning and made our way to Niagara Falls which is what most of us had been waiting for… The first thing that strikes you is that you can see the falls from the road on the way into town and we could see it from the bus!! I guess I had expected that it would be in a National Park somewhere and be somewhat like the Grand Canyon - out of the way of the town but it isn't. The second thing I noticed is that I thought the falls would be taller, but they [View Full Entry]

Niagara

The next day, we rushed to take another train ride to Niagara......we don't want to miss this opportunity of few hours not to see the world-famous Niagara Falls......reaching the place after few hours and a stop-over in Toronto- we reached Niagara around 7pm....cold but not as cold as Ottawa. We stayed at Holiday Inn and had dinner at Denny's!.......after the meal, we decided to walk to the falls and see how it would look like at night...... .....to be continued! [View Full Entry]

Clifton Hill
Daytime Niagara

Hi Everyone Yesterday three of my co-workers and I drove to Niagara Falls and had a very good time. We drove to the Canadian side and parked and got out and walked to the Falls. They are very beautiful, but I always imagined them to be taller. We all took alot of pictures there. Then we walked up to the tourist area with the casinos, tourist shops, and silly museums and shows. You can buy things with USD but you get Canadian money back and they don't give you much as they should at alot of places. But we really didn't [View Full Entry]
