We said our adieus to friends and family. We readied the boat and are fully provisioned for months so it is time to cast off. It is a rainy day but calm. We enjoyed a nice breakfast at Joyce and Frank's so we bid farewell to Napanee, we are off on our adventure. It rained steadily until 1:00 and the sun finally made an appearance when we dropped the hook. We were going to stop in Picton to top up our water tank but it was too wet for that task. We will take care of that further down the system. Needless to say we could not see much today as the visibility was limited. We did catch a glimpse of Kingston and Gananoque. The traffic was light and the wild life scarce. We saw swans, ... read more

Captain Jerry is making North Star ready for our travel to Newfoundland while the First mate runs around Kingston and Belleville Ontario, visiting family and re-provisioning. We did have a lovely Sunday but we are back to clouds and expecting rain.... read more

We launched the boat this morning and steamed for two hours on Big Bay, Telegraph Narrows and meandered on the Napanee River. We are never sure if the water will be deep enough for the boat on this body of water but as usual in the spring we were able to get to the town dock. We did bump as we made our approach but the lowest depth we encountered otherwise was 6 and a half feet. We need three and a half when fully loaded. This is a really nice place to visit with a park and picnic tables and shore power. There is no water, showers and the public washrooms are not the cleanest. There is often entertainment in ... read more

Written April 4th 2011 A few X's on the map near where I wake up, an old shed (oldest something or ever in Ontario) wasn't much t lok at so I picked a road south. Get as far as Napanee when I decide I need to stop for fuel and cash. I stop in the tourist information to see if there's anything in the area worth a look. Turns out it's Avril Lavigne's home town and she's home for a couple of weeks, must have known I was coming. The tourist information tries to arrange for me to meet her, but doesn't work out. Her loss, whoever she is. Napanee is decorated with dozens of scarescows. This is apparently normal. South to Pitney to see The Lake on the Mountain and drive past some wineries. I ... read more
