Economically and technologically the nation has developed in parallel with the US, its neighbor to the south across an unfortified border. Canada's paramount political problem is meeting public demands for quality improvements in health care and education services after a decade of budget cuts. The issue of reconciling Quebec's francophone heritage with the majority anglophone Canadian population has moved to the back burner in recent years; support for separatism abated after the Quebec government's referendum on independence failed to pass in October of 1995.

Feest & voetbal

Yo iedereen die dit leest, dit keer een update met fotos als het lukt :) Afgelopen zaterdag een erg leuk feest in een 'cottage' in een verlaten bos bij Lake George. Het feest begon al om 7 uur en was anders dan ik in Nederland gewend ben. Ik werd thuis opgehaald door een vriend en na een korte stop bij de supermarkt in een soort colonne van auto's op naar Lake George. Merry in the Maritimes

Im going to cheat a little here and give you a very quick run down of my maritime adventures... After NY I headed back to Toronto for a night and then it was a quick flight into Halifax. A pretty little harbour city with a lot of hills. I guess it was a bit of a shock to the system after the sights and sounds of TO and NY but it was a nice change of pace none the less. Soccer Team en een Exchange Students meeting

Hey allemaal, weekje niks gehoord en ik krijg al ongeduldige mailtjes ;). Leuk weekje gehad: 2 soccer tryouts gehad die allebei naar mijn mening niet goed gingen (het is best lastig om zonder kicksen en scheenbeschermers te voetballen). Verassend genoeg kwam ik m'n naam tegen op de lijst die op vrijdag werd opgehangen. Ik ben nu officieel een striker/forward in het Varsity team van NKEC :D. Vandaag gelijk maar even allerlei voetbal spullen gekocht, aangezien ik volgende week maandag training, en zowel dinsdag als woensdag een wedstrijd heb. Over the border

The Canadian falls are more spectacular, but at dusk the setting sun reflects on the buildings and gives off a wonderful glow.

We were so excited to be on our way, then…… our Fan-tas-tic (or not so) fan broke. Still it was not all bad because as luck would have it we were driving right past the factory on our way to the Border. The web site said “call in any time, we will be pleased to repair / replace your fan for free”. After a month, what difference did another day make? Begin van school

Hey allemaal, het heeft even een paar dagen geduurd, maar hier dan een vervolg op m'n vorige blog. Dinsdag heb ik lekker uitgeslapen en ben toen in de loop van de dag met Heon en Linda naar New Minas (dorp vlakbij) gegaan. Daar school supplies gekocht bij de Staplers en nog even bij de WalMart geweest. Beide winkels waren ongelofelijk goedkoop; niet alleen elektronica maar ook schoolspullen zijn echt een stuk goedkoper dan in NL.
