The issue of reconciling Quebec's francophone heritage with the majority anglophone Canadian population has moved to the back burner in recent years; support for separatism abated after the Quebec government's referendum on independence failed to pass in October of 1995.

Snow in the downtown

The winter is actually here now. It snowed about 20 centimeters yesterday. I finally figured out how the people here say there is lots of snow here. They really dont get many snow falls but it never melts so there is accumulation. The walk to work was cold today (minus 18) and I have not bought a proper jacket yet so I have improvised. My scarf gets wrapped up over my head and I wrap a long piece of fleece around my bum because my jacket's not long enough. Ya, I look a little ridiculous but I'm warm. Interesting Interviews and Indecision

Well, My week. I went out to Edmonton Monday night for a Job interview Tuesday Morning. I spent some great time with my friend Sue. It was fantastic to meet her wonderful little boy. The interview went well and Sue and I did some shopping in the Big City. I flew Canadian North Airlines, What a fantastic service. Friday was really nice weather, I was over dressed for the walk home this day. This picture was taken on the back deck of our place. Chantal is there too,... on the phone.!

What a good day. Mary and I went out to her cabin on River Lake. I let Mary know that I wanted to get out of town this Saturday. She let me know that she had to get out to bale out her boat and invited me to come along. Dakotah and Mary's daughter have become good friends so Dakotah hung out with her while Mary and I and the dogs went out the Ingram trail, one of the two roads out of Yellowknife. There's Dakotah standing in front of one of the $700,000 plus houses in one of the new subdivisions in Yellowknife

We finally got out and took some pictures of the wobbly roads. They built ON the BOG and disrupted the permafrost. It’s a really weird experience driving on these roads, the pictures really don't do it justice. It feels a lot like you are driving on a roller coaster. Like that kids elephant ride at the PNE. We can’t believe that the road has sunk so much in places and the concrete doesn’t crack, it just bends down and sinks into the ground. Free Vegetables...
On my way to work I pass this Garden out in front of the Northern Families Resouce Cente. One morning there were three people picking vegetables out to eat. There are still beets, carrots and potatoes... [more]

This week Its funny that the main thing I have the urge to talk about is my walks to work in the morning. It was rainy and cold here almost all week. It warmed up to 4 degrees Celsius this afternoon. There are digital signs up on the street that tell you temperature. Yay. The school board sign also shows the day of the week in English, French and one of the Native languages here. Under the BC New Drivers Program she had to learn Right turns today... Luckily all the streets here in Yellowknife go in circles... HA. No She did very good on her left turns too. Even across traffic.... [more]

Talitha is Doing really good with her Driving,,, Yellowknife is a real music town... There seems to be more facilities for live music here than in Kamloops. I went out on Saturday night and watched some performers. I love live music, I miss the live music that I got to sing and dance to every sunday. We have a mandalyn at our house. Not all Rosy

So the weather turned cold this week. It rained for three days. Just a drisly, misty rain. Enough that I was damp when I got to work. And cold. I wore my gloves during the walk to work on Wednesday. The weather dried up for Friday when a bunch of great people from work helped me move a bedroom suite out of one friends house into my place. A Beautiful Place

Daisey enjoying Yellowknife

Monday Morning, I took some photos to show you how pretty it is around this city of Yellowknife. I took these as I was walking Daisey this morning just out behind our house. There are several lakes within the city limits of Yellowknife and they are clear and beautiful. There are lots of small trees around, mostly pine and aspen, and birch growing between the bulges of bedrock. The leaves are just starting to turn colour.
