Day Six

Got an early start after a night at one of the worst hotels we’ve ever stayed in. First off, we drove past the place twice before we even realized it was a hotel. Then, as we’re checking in we notice a sign about a boil water advisory. Then while the young man was trying to fix our remote control, he proceeds to tell us that the water they served us at the hotel was not boiled. We then went for a walk to get some much needed exercise, (and receiving a few black fly/stout fly bites) we return back to our room and proceed to have upset stomachs and needing a bathroom. And, the walls were like paper and you could hear every word in the room next door. Even, the awful singing the lady was doing. And, the hair dryer and air conditioner did not work, but we did get a good night’s sleep. Ok, enough complaining. The road was gravel the first 140 miles or so and then to our surprise it turned into a nice smooth blacktop road. Felt so nice I didn’t go faster than the speed limit (80 KMH) just to savor the smooth road. Arrived

at Happy Valley/Goose Bay at 1PM Atlantic time only to find out the hotel lost our reservation and didn’t have a room for us. Luckily there was a place up the road that had a room. Good thing we got here early because they were sold out by 5PM. Has an early (bird) dinner and got some groceries and benedryl itch relief stuff and exchanged some money and headed back to the hotel to do some laundry. Hope to get to bed early and up early for a 300 mile (or so) drive on all gravel roads. One more day of gravel roads! There’s a pub downstairs called Jungle Jim’s that we might visit to enjoy their “Wednesday night wing’s night” (and maybe a beer or 2).

Glad to hear you are able to stay 'regular' on your trip. Love the road sign!!! Who knew paved roads were such a luxury. Stay happy. P.

Bummer about the terrible hotel! At least you were able to find some beers! I hope Thursday is better. I read your previous entries - sounds like a lot of challenging driving, but beautiful scenery.
