busy timePaul McCartney's concert took place in the Common at the end of our street - about 500m away so we sat on the porch with a bottle of wine and heard it all in comfort.
Not having access to Gust O'Wind this summer has been a mixed blessing - it has not been a good sailing season on Georgian Bay - so our typical trip to the north Channel might not have been up to past years. The Whytes rented our place again for 3 weeks and we have taken off for the east coast - Halifax, Nova Scotia and Newfoundland.
We'll send along a couple of blogs of our travels over the next 3 weeks.
Halifax is a great place to visit - we picked a B&B close to Downtown so we could walk everywhere. Spent 3 nights there. Highlights included: Pier 21(entry point for over a million immigrants to Canada), The Citadel, Maritime Museum and a lovely sail on the harbour. A surprise addition was being able to listen to the Paul McCartney concert held just meters away from our B&B in an outdoor venue.
On to Newfoundland.
We have been watching the weather closely - just as well as were able to change our boat cruise on Western Brook Pond to the morning - avoiding the afternoon rain.
The scenery really was spectacular, right up there with Milford Sound
the Marshe is a registered 'Tall Ship' that has been around the world twice and now sails around Halifax Harbour. We were fortunate to have a perfect day on the water.
in New Zealand - we think the photos back it up!

at the helmwe took the wheel for a bit just to keep our hands in
walking inthe walk in is an easy 30 minute hike on boardwalks and good trails
the pondWestern Brook pond is actually a former fiord that is now land locked. "Pond' is the Newfie equivalent of a lake.
fallsthere are a number of small waterfalls along the way
cruisingas usual, we are happy to be on the water!
east endat the far east end after an hour by boat, you can disembark and take a 5 day hike back to civilization...we opted for the return trip on the boat.
mooseour first moose of the trip - seen by the road on the way to Cow Head.... some great place names here.
Lobster Pointthis little lighthouse lights the way into the entrance of Bonne Bay and the town of Rocky Harbour where we stayed for 3 nights

Hi you two,
Your shots of Western Brook Pond are fabulous! I read the McCartney concert review in The Globe on Monday and knew you two were there experiencing it all first hand - and was so envious!
Hope you enjoy the rest of your trip through northern peninsula!
Best,
Judy
Yes...!!!We loved the east coast and are so ready to return!Mention of Rocky Harbour evokes memories as that is where we met B&R and you know what followed...Continue to enjoy! We are busy here but things are finally falling into place...Cherers.M&T
Great to hear of your continuing travels - this time boatless. Lucky you, for experiencing the concert in Halifax. We are leaving mid-week for our North Shore cruising and will meet our daughters, son-in-law and 2 grandsons up in the Killarney area where we have a cabin rented for a week close to Covered Portage. Hope to do some shore and water activities with them during that time. We do need better weather than we have been having. Cheers, Y & G
