Woke up early to rain and thunder....able to get back to sleep, thank goodness!
Another bright and sunny and hot day today, great day for driving.
Started talking to my neighbour and discovered he is from Guelph! Small world. He is still traveling and heading into the states before he heads back to Guelph.
Packed up and back on the road. Spent the morning wondering around Saskatoon. Another beautiful city, and very friendly people. Otis and I enjoyed some of the walking trails around the city and the Saskachewan River.
Drove off the highway to a small town, with a salt lake! Lake Manitou. Went for a quick swim, which was very refreshing, cool, salty and I was very buoyant!
Some information from the Canadian Encyclopedia:
"A hydrologically closed system, evaporation leaves the water concentrated in dissolved salts and minerals. Little Manitou Lake's water is 5 times more concentrated with salt (180 000 milligrams per litre) than the ocean's water. It is one of only 5 lakes in the world (2 others are also in Saskatchewan) where dissolved salt precipitates in deep water. This occurs when the water is calm for an extended period of time;
the salinity near the lake's bottom increases to the point where the water can no longer hold any more salt in the dissolved state. The lake became saline about 1000 years ago. Before that time it was about twice as deep as its current average depth of 3.8 metres. Its specific gravity of 1.06 means the water is many times more buoyant than freshwater."
The driving was so beautiful. Farmers out harvesting, even at night, you can see their lights on in the fields! At least they had the full moon with them! Very dusty today!
Choose to sleep in a hotel tonight. Thought a bed would be good for my back (a bit tired from all the driving I have been doing).
Winnipeg and back into Ontario tomorrow. Better get some sleep!
YorktonFinally, an old grain elevator!
