A LATE arrival in Morden Saturday, 21 July 2007 This morning we loaded our gear & ourselves into Casper & headed to Cypress River, from where I was planning to cycle maybe 20 kilometres along the Trans Canada Trail before returning to pavement & the road heading towards Altamont. We were planning to stay in Morden, but that was about as far as I thought I could go for the one day. Bob, meanwhile, realized just before he dropped me off that he’d been expecting a parcel of mail from Ottawa, which had been sent quite a bit earlier in the week, and he’d neither heard anything about it, nor had he remembered to ask if it had arrived at the desk. So he & Panna were going to drive back to Brandon to inquire ... read more

Briefly, a day "off" Friday, 20 July 2007 Today was another planned "day off", so we could sleep in a bit & I allowed myself a smaller breakfast than on days when I plan to cycle. We ran some errands, did some shopping, got my hair trimmed & did some laundry, things we can't do when Bob's got to be picking me up or dropping me off someplace. And I had fun taking Panna for a short walk along an urban recreational pathway which ran very close to the motel & taking some photos of things along that path. For dinner we treated ourselves to The Keg, which has an outlet in Brandon, and it was OK - for some reason, my filet mignon did not seem to be as tender as some I've had previously. ... read more

From Shilo to Holland Thursday, 19 July 2007 Today we drove back to waypoint 002, near CFB Shilo, according to my GPS, and I took Silver for a ride to Holland. We were about 15 kilometres north of the Spirit Sands area of Spruce Woods Provincial Park, so Bob & Panna were going to go there, check it out & maybe wait for me, as I figured I’d be there in about an hour or so. It looked like it was going to be another scorcher! When I got there I could see that Casper was still there, but no sign of my traveling companions. I was just about ready to head out on the trail, as bicycles are not allowed on those trails, when they returned, both hot & sweaty. They’d gone along one of ... read more

Man, did I screw up!! Wednesday, 18 July 2007 Today we were all going to drive to Spruce Woods Provincial Park, where, among other things, as a result of something to do with the glaciers, there is quite a desert-like environment in a part of the park, with large sand dunes, and cacti much as one would see in the southwest (obviously they must be cold-hardy...). The Trans Canada Trail also runs through part of it. I was hoping to get in a 10 kilometre walk today, in lieu of a bike ride. Looking at some maps I came to the conclusion that it would be just as short (or long) a trip if we went via the south end of Brandon, rather than the “traditional” route along the Trans Canada Highway, north of town. ... read more

From Neepawa to Brandon (or, I REALLY don’t like highway 10!) Tuesday, 17 July 2007 It was moving day again for us & according to my GPS Brandon was only about 55 kilometres away, so I decided to take Blue & cycle to our motel there. The only problem was that my GPS doesn’t recognize many of the roads around here, even fairly significant ones, so that measurement was “as the crow flies”, not as the roads run. (But of course at the time I hadn’t come to that conclusion...) So off I went, on highway 16, which runs in front of the motel, heading west to highway 10. By doing so, one adds considerably to the distance travelled - it’s like a right triangle. So by the time I’d reached highway 10, with 40 kilometres ... read more

Hey everyone sorry we've been slacking on whats been going on. We flew back to Canada on April 22 and are currently in Manitoba. Dave and I are staying with my sister Nadine, and helping my dad on the farm. We will be in Manitoba until the wedding. Before we left Europe we spent a week in Edinburgh Scotland, staying with a friend of my sisters. Edinburgh is a great city and we didn't get to see even half of it. We spent pretty much the entire week walking up and down the Royal Mile doing the touristy stuff along the way. The Royal Mile is the mile long road that connects Edinburgh Castle to the Queens Palace. There was lots of things to see and do, and with our pass that we bought we ... read more

First blog North America » Canada » Manitoba » Brandon By Scott KerryApril 7th 2007Hello everyone, This is our very first blog on this site. We tried using a myspace page but it didn't really fit our needs. We aren't interested in sharing all our favorite songs, books, movies and so on. We just wanted an easy to use page to share our travel experiences with our friends and family. I think this place will fit much better. I will take some time and upload some pictures and write some blogs from our recent trip to New York and also my trip to Whitehorse. Stay tuned, Scott... read more
