heading out over the lake
Bob went out at 8 this morning looking for a welder to fix his camper. Both places recommended to him weren't open until 9, give or take, so they decided they'd find one in Whitehorse. Since it was drizzling this morning, we sent them on and agreed to meet in Whitehorse. On our way to Whitehorse we saw some horses on the side of the road, not white ones, paints. Later we saw an elk at the edge of the woods.

In Whitehorse, we met Bob and Gena at Walmart and found they had a 2 o'clock appointment to get their camper worked on. We ate lunch together at the slowest McDonald's ever, and that's really saying something. We agreed to meet at the campground and went on ahead to check it out and reserve spots. Not far out of town we saw a moose and her calf in a lake, but couldn't stop for a picture.

When we got to the campground, we found it was no longer in operation, so we waited for Bob and Gena to catch up with us. Our secondary plan had been to go to Tagish, but I remembered there was road construction

on Tagish Hwy. When we met up again we agreed to go on to Atlin instead. The plan had been to stay 2 nights in a campground and go to Atlin tomorrow then back to the campground. The road to Atlin has 40 miles of gravel road, but it was mostly smooth gravel, except for the construction areas.

The drive to Atlin is a very pretty one, first along the Little Atlin Lake, then later Atlin Lake. Atlin Lake is 85 miles long and 2-5 miles wide. There are mountains around the lake, and one mountain on a large island in the lake. Bob's parents used to have a summer place in Atlin and we can see the house from the campground.

There was a bald eagle atop a pole in the campground, and we managed to get quite a few pictures of it before it flew off. While we were watching the eagle, a float plane landed in the lake behind us.

Today was our 39th wedding anniversary. Thanks for the happy wishes.
