Lake Emerald
Wow, look at the reflection, who needs Lake Louise
This day (tuesday 15th) we first had to do some errants as we were out of almost everything and you gotta eat. So, we went to the local supermarket "Sobeys" in Golden. Our muscles surprisingly didn't ache that much so we felt good enough to do some less streneous hikes. We drove back to Yoho National park to Emerald Lake and had a nice relaxed walk around it. The first half part we walked through rain forest and there were some spectecular mirror views on the lake. The lake gets it color from light reflecting off the fine glacial rock particles. There was hardly any wind so the surface of the lake acted as a perfect mirror. This allowed me to take some nice shots. Thereafter we had picnic lunch again with all kinds of tasty stuff, cheese, baguette, chumus, tomatoes, cheddar, guacomolo etc. Next we drove to the Takakkaw Falls which is one of the highest waterfalls in Canada we were told. Takakkaw is a Cree (First Nations clan) word for magnificent and it certainly is. From there we took a part of the iceline trail which goes steep up and allows to view several glaciers and beautiful scenery. But

Takakkaw Falls
Big Falls, over 250m
we really felt the heavy hike of the previous day and it was already getting a bit late. Therefore, after getting above the treeline we returned to the car. On the way back we had a view on the spiral tunnels. This is a solution of the canadian railroad to decrease the climb of the trains from 4,5% to 2,2%. In 1909 the canadian railroad the spiral tunnels were carved into the mountains with explosive charges and a lot of digging. We saw a train twisting in itself. That was a neat sight. Tomorrow we will leave the Rockies and drive through the National Glacier Park and Revelstoke Park to our next stop in the town Revelstoke.

The Best of Canada
You are really seeing the best of Canada. Some of what you are seeing, I haven't seen (Adrian has seen most of BC and Alta but that was before I met him). I have been to Lake Louise and it was beautiful. Fortunately I was guest speaking and my expenses were paid for at the beautiful Fairmont Hotel. When you get a moment, please email us and let us know what you want to see in Vancouver so that we can get an idea of how we can put the days together and if there will be time for us to show you a few spots that we know of. You are still very lucky with the weather. Hope it lasts for the entire trip for you. See you soon, Brenda and Adrian
