Geo: 50.1183, -122.954"Ah ha ha ha" cackled the scheming Witchy-Poo Mindy Moo tapping the tips of her fingers together. "Now that we have got rid of Mummy Dearest after scaring her half to death on the scooters, let's see if we can push Daddy off the edge of the Whistler Peak on a mountain bike."Good opportunity for a a bit of fiction here! But let's get to the facts.Bottom line - Mindy beat Daddy for the first time in her life at ANYTHING! Despite his best efforts Mac was not the super hero on the day. But he did give it his very best shot.To be fair, even the fit out was a little intimidating. So much safety and protective gear to get into hardly inspires confidence. There's a helmet, shin guards, ankle gaurds, knee guards, ... read more

Geo: 50.1164, -122.953Who in their right mind wakes up one morning and says..... "Think it would be great to put an elderly, blind, overweight unfit woman on a motor scooter and send her out onto the highway!?%$#" Declaring right up front that it was a BAD BAD BAD idea but Mindy and Ian (with the support of Mac) voted this as the number one thing to do and sold this as the "pinacle" of the Whistler experience. Now that I think back on it - I don't recall seeing any other tourist doing this EVER!Mindy and Ian literally ran down the mountain to throw their legs over those scooters. Mindy had been making phone calls for a month to ensure our booking was in place and had called in to the store many times to check ... read more

Geo: 50.1183, -122.954So we're back and it feels just like coming home. We know where we are going and how to get there. The snow has definitely retreated and the days are warm and despite wanting to see a bear - there are none waiting for us today. But one thing hasn't changed. Our guides are still pushing and prodding and getting us outdoors to enjoy MORE of the dizzying sights of the mountain. The weather is perfect with blue skies and no wind and this is the combination that Mindy has been waiting for to get out on the Peak2Peak. This gondola is in the Guiness Book of Records because it is the longest unsupported lift span in the world! It is a feat of engineering that links Blackcomb and Whistler Mountains and in the ski season means ... read more

Geo: 50.1183, -122.954It was all hands on deck this morning to get everything sorted and back in the suitcases. We are itinerants again, living out of the suitcases for this last part of the trip.Of course, the alarms were unnecessary because we were a little excited and were looking forward to heading back to Mindy and Ian...well, not the bus ride bit!The whole "get off the boat" thing was a bit of an anticlimax. A last stop in the Garden Cafe for breakfast, farewell and hugs for Daryl, our last washy washy wave to Maria and we were trundling our luggage down the gangway. We were loaded.....the backpack was stuffed to make the bags lighter for the bus weighin and Mac had the mandatory bottl-o loot but we thought taking care of our own luggage was ... read more

Geo: 50.1183, -122.954We took it very easy in Whistler on Day 1 and treated ourselves to a sleep in! (Mind you we did wake up at 7 am to send Michael midnight birthday wishes for his thirtieth.) The beautiful suite at the Four Seasons was made to order for this leisurely start to the day...there is just so much room and the lounge room and fire work even when the predicted forecast is 27C.The first assignment of the day was actually a lunch date at the Lilwat and Squamish Cultural Centre. We took off to our 12.15 lunch date and left poor Mindy with all our laundry at The Aspens! Mac was wearing his last clean shirt so we did appreciate the laundry support. I still begrudge paying hotel laundry prices! The Rocky Mountaineer organised tour to ... read more

Geo: 50.1187, -122.945Sadly then, Quesnel was a non event but it did mean that I was awake for Day 2 of the trip which of course would culminate at Whistler! Mac did a quick lap around the train station and held up the departure by 20 seconds taking a few Quesnel shots. And this was back to familiar changes in landscape rather than the monotony of the Cariboo Plains.Again, the food and drinks are endless. Think we both set new records today for scotch, rum and Baileys. The menu changes for lunch on the trip and I think today was my all time favourite. Mac had a tenderloin steak cooked to perfection that just melted under the knife and I had a dreamy, creamy Prawn Goyozo that I think I could eat for months. Our new ... read more

Geo: 50.1155, -122.946Forty-one hours of birthday celebrations! Happy Birthday Mac and thanks to the Aussie friends who started sharing messages in the early hours of the morning here in Canada which sent Mac's phone and iPad into a notifications alert frenzy. (On the bright side The Birthday Boy now knows how to turn off the alert sounds and the keyboard tap!)It certainly ensured that we were off and running for an early celebration. We cranked up the Beatles' White Album and blasted out "Birthday" at top volume and Mindy did the stylish Daddy Dance to kick off celebrations after diving head first "into the middle" of the bed. The celebrations had begun! Breakfast at Wild Wood had been on the cards for a while (Ian's fav) and after a false start last week they were open ... read more

Geo: 50.1155, -122.946Yep, it's true, the Marathon Man took a tumble in Spearhead Drive very early in his run on Monday. Managed to get his foot caught in the loop of his shoelace and took a slide down the gravel. Very nasty - a hand, wrist, shoulder, hip, knee combo! On the bright side, no damage to his glasses.Mac limped home with his hand wrapped in his T-shirt - he didn't want to drip blood on the newly polished slate tiles in the foyer. When he came through the unit door I actually thought he must have a broken wrist but it was "only" gravel rash. There was blood everywhere - have to confess that Nurse Jan was struggling to hold onto her stomach. It was ghastly. But with frequent reference to Dr Google, and a raid ... read more

Geo: 50.1158, -122.946What an adventure. The last few days have been all about camping at Lake Cheakamus.Friday was a big day for Ian. He left Whistler on the bus at 4.30 am for Vancouver for his once a week workday in the city. We didn't see him again until 7.30 pm .... but we were thinking of him on our our almost daily visit to The North Face store. We wanted to get hiking packs for Mindy and Ian to thank them for their hospitality. We spent over an hour in the store with Nic as he went through the features of the different models. The decision was finally made: a 50 litre for Ian, a 35 litre for Mindy and a 20 litre little grey number for Mac. He did take some convincing because he ... read more

Geo: 50.1152, -122.946This day took precision timing and attention to detail and planning. But nothing is too much trouble for our Happy Whistler guide.Mindy and Ian have to hike up to the Day Care Centre to pick up the car that Emily has lent us for the day. Very generous and very much appreciated. They were then on their way to an 8.30 pickup for a free offer for staff to try out a new adventure offered by the Advemture Group (TAG).Mindy and Ian loved it. Racing around the mountain driving the RZR (pronounced "Razors"). Off road and on the side of the mountain they took turns as driver and passenger hooning through the forest trails for 90 minutes! They were windswept and dirty when we met them in the car park 4 ready to head south ... read more
