Background: A land of vast distances and rich natural resources, Canada became a self-governing dominion in 1867 while retaining ties to the British crown. Economically and technologically the nation has developed in parallel with the US, its neighbor to the south across an unfortified border. Canada's paramount political problem is meeting public demands for quality improvements in health care and education services after a decade of budget cuts. The issue of reconciling Quebec's francophone heritage with the majority anglophone Canadian population has moved to the back burner in recent years; support for separatism abated after the Quebec government's referendum on independence failed to pass in October of 1995.

Doing his bit for the image of Australia one of my colleagues, an Australian expat named Kit, was sitting next to an American on a plane destined for Sydney, Australia. They got to talking and the American stated that he would be hiring a car at the airport. He asked if it was necessary to get a 4WD in order to get from the airport to his hotel in the city (what the..?) Frowning, Kit announced that of course it was necessary. The American accepted this as he had suspected as much. Apparently the look on the face of the American [View Full Entry]

I finally received my vaccinations from almost every disease imaginable. Polio, Hepatitis A, Typhoid and I'll be mixing up a fizzy pouch of powder with San Pellegrino to prevent Cholera. The Hep A shot reallllly hurt. Felt like a knife slowly penetrating my upper arm. I was also given a prescription for malaria, but Galib said they make people go craaaaazzzy. So now I have to decide if I want to go craaaaazzzy or somehow avoid the 'squitos as much as possible. Maybe I'll add a 'squito net to my wardrobe. Bottom line: I advise everyone travelling to far away places [View Full Entry]

Up again at 4 am and checked in at halifax with no problem. Trouble began in Toronto with mechanical problems with the landing gear on the flight to Vancouver. After an hour delay we were on our way. At Vancouver we hustled to the other end of the airport to make our connection to Tokyo. More mechanical problems and a delay of 3.5 hours. A new plain was provided. Again, we were seated in the back row. Is that where they put the people flying on travel points? We were too late arriving in Tokyo to make our connection to Bangkok [View Full Entry]

This is mostly just a test run to see how updating my journal works on this site. So as a test run I'm going to talk a bit about my plans. Most of you have already heard all about this because, I'll admit it, I'm excited and I'm telling everyone about my plans. So here they are... This year has been full of many unexpected changes for Dominic and myself. We began 2006 in Vancouver, having recently started new jobs. I was working for Executive Search Dating as the Marketing & Promotions Manager, as well as doing some 'Extra' work for film & TV, and had the opportunity to be featured in a Commercial. Dominic was working for Blackfish Marine Yacht Brokers as the Customer Service Manager. He was involved in the sale of luxury motor yachts up to 85ft. We lived downtown Vancouver in Yaletown, drove a yellow Jeep Wrangler, spent weekends skiiing in Whistler, and had [View Full Entry]

Ausser [View Full Entry]

Tonight, I will start my 2-week journey to various places in Canada and USA. The first stop of my trip would be Edmonton, where I will spend 2 days. Then I will go to Calgary and spend one day. From Calgary, I'll be flying to Las Vegas. After spending 2 days in LV, I will travel around USA Southwest and California, before visiting my father's friend, Uncle Danny, in San Francisco (my last stop). I will fly back from San Francisco to Vancouver on 3rd January. Then, finally, I will fly back to Singapore on 5th January. Yesterday, I moved all [View Full Entry]
