We drove to Vancouver with Radan who flew home. Then we met up with Rhonda and Peter and the boys again there. We also met with Ron Weiss who we both knew at university and his partner Kate and their boys. They took us to a hockey match of the Vancouver Giants. Its a very skillful game in between fights. There were at least 4 and the refs just let them rip into each other till they had had enough. Wouldn't last 2 minutes in soccer, they'd be banned for life. And the crowd cheering them on. Now I know what they mean by a Hockey Mom. Anyway it was great to go. A true insight into the Canadian soul. Scary Huh?... read more

Well, we leave tomorrow at 12:45. We will have physically departed Canadian soil. The past two weeks have been pretty crazy, what with trying to get everything ready and organized. I've been having the constant case of the butterflies for the past two days. I swear they won't go away. I'm really excited to go but i'm also apprehensive to leave because i have never been away from home for such a long period of time. However, i'm definitely ready for that "flighty temptress adventure", and i can't wait to show everyone all the cool stuff i'll see in Japan. I think that I have everything organized...i hope...I've got all the webcams installed and running. I've got my camera ready to go, but I've yet to figure out which books to bring...I have been procrastinating ... read more

Its day 17 of our tour of Canada so we are exactly half way through. Still in Vancouver and will be until the 2nd, then its back to Toronto on our evil mega long three day journey on the train. Not really seen much of Vancouver as our hostel actually has a pub within it and we met loadsa cool, english, aussie and kiwi travellers, which of course has led to several days of drinking in the Beaver (the pub in the hostel) Loose Moose and on Davie street the gay street of Vancouver. Managed to not be hungover today though and made it out and about to the Capilano suspension bridge. Its about an hour away from central Vancouver by the sea bus and a normal bus and is over a huge beautiful cannyon, with ... read more

Hello again, So I thought that I'd update my travel blog (even though I'm not travelling yet) and briefly explain the reason for my trip to Japan, how long I'm going to stay, where I'm staying, etc. First off, last September one of my best friend (Roxy) and I found out about a meeting for a scholarship to Japan that let 3 students from Capilano College (now a Universty/College) go to a sister college in Japan (called Aichi Gakusen, in the city of Okazaki). Of course we were both extremely interested and even more interested when we found out it was a free ride . We both asked teachers, employeers and friends to write up character references, agonized over the perfect wording of our application and then both crossed our figures as we sent off ... read more

Well, I thought I'd update today, even though I'm not travelling yet. This is my first blog entry EVER, and I thought I'd experiment. My trip doesn't actually start until the 28th or so of September, however I thought I'd create a blog site and update here and there until my deptature, in which case I'm sure my blog will explode with photos and entries. In the meantime I'll just post entries of my summer travels here in Beautiful British Columbia. ~Emily... read more

Tim: We arrived in Vancouver on Monday, we set off to find the hostel and managed to take in part of the tramp and vagabond filled lower east side. We found the hostel in a sligtly nicer part of town but with still a tramp every 10 metres or so. I only have so much "spare" change! Over the last few days we have seen alot of Vancouver and it has gone up in my estimation. Day 1 we strolled around the huge Stanley Park area which is a park by the sea with a beach and some tourist attractions in. Day 2 we watched the Champions League Final. MAN UNITED! I was on a different planet for a few hours after that game and came back down to earth a bit later when we met ... read more

Hello, Yesterday we said goodbye to Philip Malbrancke, a friend that came over to join us for a while travelling in Canada, and he arrived save and sound in Belgium, was the message on the cellphone, good. Today we took the bus to go into town, and indeed we had real snow coming down, as the weatherforecast warned for a winterstorm coming in. The busride from Richmond, where we can stay with Rob and Pam, to broadway was something like twenty minutes for 2.25 Canadian dollar, and we met Sheila on mainstreet in a nice restaurant called the Reef. Sheila joined us on the trip through Latin America from Buenos Aires to Caracas, so we were glad to exchange our pictures, and talk about the nice moments we had over there. Meanwhile the snow is thikening ... read more
