Our last entry!...well for this leg anyway (you poor poor souls!)
Currently getting ourselves psyched up for overnight flight back to Glasgow & not feeling the love!
Ok so after the hellish drive through the pouring rain with horrendous hangovers (but with our designated legal driver behind the wheel - she may be Irish & drunk but she's not all bad...!) we managed to get a ferry over to Vancouver Island. We were shocked to discover that this is not the Arran-esque mini island we imagined & is more the size of Ireland (we think. Based on Lindsay & Lucy's - admittedly poor - judgement!) Who knew?! Took us 2 hours to drive to the capital, Victoria, which seemed lovely in the pishing rain.
Luckily it brightened up the next day. (We're fair weather travellers & proud of it!)Spent a couple of days exploring Victoria, went on the 'Big Red Bus' around town (judge us as you like) & learned about the history. It's very pretty & very British-like. We spent most of the journey dodging the crazy lady who was taking photos of us...& everything else we passed (trust me, you think OUR pictures are boring!).
We
went on a horse trail through the forest which was cool....despite me & my nag lagging 10 minutes behind our fellow horsey people due to my incompetence behind the reigns & his need to eat every tree we passed. Lucy was cantering off into the sunset at this point with her trusty steed. Grr. Still think I'm rodeo bound...!
We then drove North-West across the country stopping at every pretty beach we could find & ended up in Tofino (or Tsunami country as I like to call it!), it's a little surfing mecca & is v pretty. Then headed back to Nanaimo to catch the ferry the next day.....& stayed in the grottiest hovel you could imagine! In future, I think we'll learn not to book into somewhere with 'value' in the title & where the desk clerk on arrival is fielding complaints about roaches, flooding & non-functioning smoke detectors! I won't go into too much detail for fear of giving our mothers heart attacks but the night culminated in me scaling a wall to dodge a Hell's Angel, Lucy barricading the door with all our luggage & arming ourselves in bed with corkscrews & penknives in hand (Lucy also
had the added bonus of waking up with said blade to her temple!) Oh dear god. Hot-tailed it the hell out of there at 6.30am & got the next ferry to Vancouver just happy to have survived the night. Who ever let us out on our own?!!
Have lived Vancouver at a much slower pace than the rest of the trip, which has been pretty damn nice. We've continued our lucky streak with the weather & spent a lot of time walking around the Parks (Granville & Stanley for those in the know!) & along the beaches. We've mainly been shopping and are no longer welcome in Urban Outfitters amongst other retailers. Rude rude rude. We did manage a bit of culture visiting a museum on police, criminals & general gruesome shit. We also did yet another bus tour and befriended Kevin the ticket seller who suggested one of the Vancouver must sees would be to go to watch people smoke crack & shoot up. We weren't really on the same wavelength as Kevin & have successfully avoided him since.
Today has been rubbish. It's raining, we have a long overnight flight ahead of us & have
just realised that we have done nothing toward organising our Visa interview on Tuesday. Oh crap.
I should say that we have really enjoyed our time in Vancouver, I'm just very tired writing this!
So thanks for reading all our blogs. It's been a blast & we can't wait to see you all when we get home. Our 'fuck off to Utah' party is on the 10th Nov at Mine, Bath St (venue to be confirmed). See you there!!! (or you better have a bloody good reason!)
The end.

I've lived here all my life and I'm absolutely satisfied. This is one of those places on the planet where you could surf in the morning and ski in the mountains later on. If you'll be looking to move here, let me know - I'll be glad to help you find a home! Take a look at www.jaybanks.ca!
