On Tuesday, October 27th, 2009 my friends and I went out for dinner at Bon Rouge French Bistro Restaurant. It is located in the Inner Harbor on 611 Courtney Street in Victoria, British Columbia. I was amazed at how many local products Bon Rouge had to offer. A number of their local wines came from Sand Hill, Grey Monk, Summer Hill, Mission Hill and Kettle Valley Wineries. As well, some of their food items are also local too. Bon Rouge’s chicken is free-ranged and local. Their Lamb is also local and their Pork is from Nanaimo. In addition, their Oysters are from Whale Town Bay, Cortes Island, B.C. and their Mussels and Albacore Tuna are both from the Island.
While I was there, I enjoyed a glass of one of their local wines called Rose Joie. It was a very delicious wine and was presented in an elegant manner. As my appetizer I ordered the Roasted Vegetable Salad. The salad was crisp with a hint of seasoned vegetables beneath the fresh baby spinach greens.
I also ordered the Chicken Provence, that was also very satisfying and I was very impressed in the way they presented my entrée.
The chicken was filled with spices and soaked in garlic juice, onions and an onion sauce that was placed on top of a thinly sliced potato.
As my dessert, I had the Chocolate Caramel Cake and a cup of Bon Rouge Coffee. I am a chocolate lover, and my dessert that night hit the spot. The presentation was also fascinating, especially in the way they drizzled the caramel sauce on my piece of cake and the plate.
The atmosphere of the restaurant was also very relaxing and soothing. The dim lighting and soft music in the background made me feel very comfortable and at ease during my time at Bon Rouge. The service and quality of the food was very well done and the presentation was outstanding. I was also impressed with the diverse selection of French Cuisine choices served at the restaurant. Although, the menu items were rather highly priced, the quality and value of service made up for it. I would highly recommend Bon Rouge as a first choice for anyone who is looking for a low key and elegant atmosphere to dine at. Overall, I had an exceptionally educational and fun-filled evening out with my
friends.
