As ever, Emerald Lake pleased us with its high-piled drifts. Sun-brightened snow drew us along a walking path into the dark woods. Probably a gentle stroll in the summer, the way was narrow - literally two-feet-wide. Slight mis-steps took us down to our knees in soft dry snow. Although the trees reflected no light, we heard the birds chirping from their depths on this moderately warmer day. After all, we were also hopping about, finding pleasure in our conversation. Not so solitary. We met another walker. Unable to pass on the tramped-down path, we danced into the deep powder, back and forth onto the harder surface. DAWSON CREEK is mile 0 on the alcan highway ... A DAY IN PEACE … yes…, a very strange title for a blog …, however, we are in “peace county,” British Columbia …, just crossed the “peace” river“, and truly, Greg and I are at peace with the world . … I’m trying something new --- blogging as we proceed down the road … a few miles back we took pictures of ourselves standing at mile marker on the ancan highway …the pictures show us in bright sunshine , with a strange blue background for pillow soft cumulus clouds … and here we are a few minutes later in a heavy rain storm … “ah, the smell of rain …” -JefferGreggor … we are averaging 19.5 miles per gallon … a little lower than the 23-24 ... read more
