Tuesday May 15, 2012 Nanaimo to Von Donop Inlet When we got up at 5:00 AM it was still windy and "Jenny B" was already gone. Being hardened sailors we took off anyway and once out in the Straits we knew it would be a long bumpy trip to Campbell River. We could see "Jenny B" several miles ahead and John called and suggested we could quarter the waves across the Straits of Georgia to Malsipina Strait and hug the mainland side where it might be better. (They were headed to see friends on Hornby Island or they would have come too.) Good idea. So we turned to go south of Lasqueti Island and Texada Island and pitched through four-foot waves, 20-knot winds and tacked to find the most comfortable line until we did come up ... read more

I have a hard time controlling my e-mail account, let alone a blog. But under the circumstances this seems like a good idea. I am not on the Sunshine Coast, but my computer won't let me choose Vancouver, and I love coasts and sunshine, so I thought as far as lying goes it's okay. This is my first ever dry run blog entry. How very exhilarating. ... read more

Well, we left Hope and headed north up the Fraser Canyon. We stopped off at the very quaint little town of Yale, but decided that we’re far too tight to pay $6 each to walk around a tiny little church. So we carried on and stopped instead at the (free!) Alexandra Bridge over the Fraser River, where you could see right through the bridge deck to the river below. (Guess who was overjoyed at that one!) And then again at the Hells Gate Airtram (i.e. cable car). Yep, it really was Craig’s day! We carried on to the Skihist Provincial Park, just outside Lytton. Lytton sits in the rain shadow of the Coastal Mountains, so it’s very hot and dry. So we made the most of it and had a lazy afternoon of sunbathing. Just as ... read more

This is our second trip of 2010 and is a local adventure which we normally wouldn't put on the blog. However this one was unique as it was the first time we were able to take the the dog on a motorcycle trip. This was actually a ferry trip interrupted by some motorcycling. We had 6 ferry rides to get all the way around the circuit. Including camp fees, ferry tickets and gas, the whole 4 days cost about $300. Absolute highlights of this route included Lund, the highway before Sechelt (very winding and high up along the coastline) and the 3 Sunshine Coast ferries from south of Powell River to Horseshoe Bay and Gibson's Landing. This is also an alternative route for people coming from the east who want a different and more scenic way ... read more

Hi all! Thanks for being along with us on this (1st of many) adventure(s)! At this moment sitting in our living room....watching the late news with Chevy cuddled with us, it is difficult to believe we were actually half way around the world such a short time ago! Well to go back to the last blog....oh yes leaving Thailand. An early morning shuttle to the airport and off to Seoul....well not really....Air Canada routed us through Taipei...oh well one more airport to experience haha! Then off to Seoul and then finally to Vancouver. It was great of Mitch to greet us at the airport., then to our favourite Sushi restaurant...yes one of the foods we missed !! After a feast at Kisha Poppo Mitch dropped us at the Riverhouse. For those of you that do not ... read more

Greetings from Terry and Kelley....on the Sunshine Coast. We are about to embark on a new kind of adventure. Our back packs are loaded as our departure is just 2 days away. We land in Bangkok (via Seoul, Korea), and will stay a few days. Then head south to islands on the Andaman Sea, spend some time in the jungle and then the east coast islands on the Gulf of Thailand. That is our basic plan. We are on the look out for that perfect hut on the beach, seafood galore, a new culture to absorb, and amazing diving/snorkle sites. We will be meeting Alicia during our trip as she makes her way to Thailand from Malaysia where she is travelling right now! I am not sure how much blogging we will do but hope to ... read more

Here I sit in the warmth and comfort of my parents cottage and I look outside at the foot of snow that has fallen. It is hard to believe that in just 15 days I will be making the journey to Bali, Indonesia that is currently 29 degrees with 84% humidity!!!!! I am sure I will look sweaty in every one of my pictures. I welcome all to join me on my journey. As I learned while in Europe keeping up a blog can be hard at times. I will do my best and try to update pictures as much as possible. This will mostly be a tool for my family and friends to keep in touch and a way for me to let them know I am alive. I am not much of a writter ... read more

August 19th 2007

Well, once again, I'm a blog slacker. Sorry it's taken me so long to do these entries! I think it's the fact that I have so much to say about everything that I feel like I need to take a couple hours to do this... so I keep putting it off until I have time. Hopefully I will finish this one tonight. So, I left off in the last post talking about Chatterbox Falls. I also need to add that, on the Princess Louisa cruise, Katie and I played fiddle on the boat (she taught me several fiddle tunes -- I'm SO not a fiddle expert.) That was the first time I had played violin on a boat! Wednesday evening, we just hung out around the lodge. We found out about the bridge collapse two hours ... read more

Wow, is it raining ever hard... I hope our electricity stays intact! It just came on again after having been out since Friday night (after a storm.) Anyway, the electricity thing put my BC blog on hold. Here goes (p.s. all last names will be just one letter... if anyone in the family has a question about what the name is, just email me): Sunday, 7/28, John, Mom, and I rented a car in Seattle and drove up to Egmont, on the Sunshine Coast in British Columbia. That night, we met Wendy (my third cousin, 18 yrs. hold), and her parents (Randy L. and Jackie), and we also met Katie A., of course! The lady at the front desk of the lodge showed us to our rooms. I shared a room with three other girls -- ... read more
