Background: A land of vast distances and rich natural resources, Canada became a self-governing dominion in 1867 while retaining ties to the British crown. Economically and technologically the nation has developed in parallel with the US, its neighbor to the south across an unfortified border. Canada's paramount political problem is meeting public demands for quality improvements in health care and education services after a decade of budget cuts. The issue of reconciling Quebec's francophone heritage with the majority anglophone Canadian population has moved to the back burner in recent years; support for separatism abated after the Quebec government's referendum on independence failed to pass in October of 1995.

Heh, remember the saga of the dented rental car that Larry and I returned to Sydney, Australia. We had charged it on our RBC Avion Visa card and hoped the rental car insurance would cover the damage. When we got home from Australia, there was a cheque for the full amount of the repair plus tax. $1,055. The system works. We just had to fax all the copies to Visa and they investigated and came through. The moral of the story is - don't pay for extra insurance, if you have a Visa card that includes Car Rental insurance but phone [View Full Entry]

Well we are home and it is just as wonderful as I could have hoped!! Had 2 lovely days in Hunter Valley wine area. Stayed at a great place but you know what, we are wined out, toured out. The only real interesting thing about the place was that one of the wineries had a breathalyzer. I had myself put on the car insurance just for this part of our trip and I'm glad I did. The legal limit is .05 and that is not alot. Larry picked a straw out of a bin, inserted the straw in a slot in [View Full Entry]

Well Everyone.. Here I go again two years later on another journey. I thought I would take a rare moment to do a trial blog and make sure everything is up and working for my next adventure. As some of you already know April 29th I will be leaving for Nairobi, Kenya for a month. Perhaps I should back track for some of you around the world that I have not spoken to in some time. Last year thanks to some very amazing people (Dr. Jan Hill, Jon Cohen, Allison Coumont and Tamra Roberts) I was able incorporated a society with [View Full Entry]

Here it is January 8th. I finished working on Friday, Jan 4th and Larry will finish January 11th. We had a great Christmas and New Year. Lots of friends and family. Christmas Eve saw 27 of us eating lasagne, chicken wings and salad as is Family Tradition and then up the next morning to go to Ross and Bonnie's for gift opening, home to cook turkey for Clayton, Evan, Mike and Margaret Walsh and Katherine and Karl. It was fun Santa came on Christmas Eve to the children's delight. Our family has certainly taken a shift in the last few years. [View Full Entry]

Hey guys, I'm just setting up my blog, I hope you like it! Haven't left yet, but will be heading out on Tuesday morning at 7am. I've got my passport, visa and hopefully enough cash to last me for the first month until I get paid. But as you may have guessed, I don't speak a lick of Japanese, so my first few days should be filled with tons of confusion and me feeling like I made a big mistake. I was hoping that my employer was going to send me someone to pick me up at the airport, but apparently [View Full Entry]

Well... we made it home. All of a sudden I have the patience to blog again. The trip was amazing. I feel very lucky to have been able to go on it. Having my family and friends be a part of it was very special. It was everything I had hoped. There were a few very important people missed but I know they were there in spirit. When we sadly caught the ferry off the Island we looked back and watched the boat move from the shore. Lots of very important things happened during this trip. My commitment to Tyson and Haley [View Full Entry]

It seemed that this trip was so damned far away that it would be forever till it came and here it is in less than a week! Less than a week away… busy photocopying all the documents… been through a few trial runs of packing and generally running around with my head chopped off trying to get stuff together… not to mention getting things ready at home. I’ve had the luggage out for a few weeks now and on the first day, Sugar (my cat) freaked but I haven’t left yet so I think she forgot that luggage means going away. [View Full Entry]

It is now two days before we leave. We are packed and ready to go. Can't wait to be there. Tyson is going over all the details and driving me crazy with every question under the sun(it's like he thinks i have all the answers) I have decided that I don't know and what will happen will happen. Tonight we met with the commish and did the legal part of marriage. Haley was there and she signed as my witness. Very cool. It was nice that she was part of it like that. Here is a picture after the meeting [View Full Entry]
