A leisurely start to the day was followed by a pub lunch where we watched Germany beat Portugal in the football. Random side point: I forgot to mention about my shower that morning. As I went into a cubicle, the sign said Loonie required. I thought, surely you don’t have to be a bit mentally unstable to have a shower. I quickly found out that a loonie means a dollar, and that a toonie is two dollars. Ok back to the day’s festivities. We grabbed some supplies from a grocery store and made our way to Lake Nakusp. We were stoked when we found the campsite, it was right on the lake and our site was within a stones throw of the water.
After some Bocce we were sitting around when what I thought was a bug flew through the circle into Nic, she freaked out and threw her apple at it. A while later another one flew through the circle and did the same thing, Nic didn’t have an apple this time though. It wasn’t until the third that we realised that they were hummingbirds.
So we sat amongst the hummingbirds and watched a few people out fishing
for trout in their little row boats. We didn’t see anyone catch anything; although our neighbour said he caught 25 but let them go, only taking one in the end. Personally, I think he caught the same one 25 times and in the end got sick of it.
During the afternoon whilst chowing down on hot dogs, we improved our Canada knowledge by quizzing each other on facts obtained from the lonely planet. Can you name the 10 provinces and 3 territories? Following from that we tried to guess where the moon was going to come up, we were all wrong.
When we arose the following morning we decided to stay as it was sunny. Half an hour later it was overcast. We took this as a sign to visit the nearby hot pools. We lazed in the pools for a good while. On the outsides of the building they had bird feeders and hummingbirds were all over the place. They are smaller than what I had imagined and their wings beat at an incredible rate.
Our bizarre luck with the weather continued that afternoon. The sun had come out so we went back to the lake
only for it to cloud over as we got there. Back at the campsite that afternoon I remember everyone reading, a while later I looked up to see everyone asleep. It was a relaxing place, I think I followed suit.
Nic, Tina, Jenn and I gave Scott a break from cooking that night, whipping up some burritos. Not literally, whipped burritos would taste disgusting. The evening was spent playing ‘I’m thinking of a person’. Good old games and camping go together like ... beer and pies. I couldn’t think of a good analogy, that will do.
A Kiwi that loves to travel. I, like every other traveler, would love to be a travel writer, so if you're reading this and want to pay me mega bucks then I suppose I could be persuaded. If you'd like to check out some of my other work then have a look at the satirical website that me and a few friends have created: http://www.getfact.co.nz... full info
