I rose late this morning at 7 and lazed around until I took my first paddle stroke at 9 as I couldn’t resist the lake’s glass like invitation and the surrounding mountains whispering, “Come see us close up.” The lake and the mountains fulfilled their promise of beauty and silence which was broken by a thumping thunder with me wondering, “Where the hell is that coming from?” Looking up at the mountains I saw a huge freight train about 80m up on a railway line cut into the side slope of the mountain. Two huge engines were pulling and eventually I saw the rear of the line of wagons where another engine was pushing as the train thundered its way up a 10 degree slope. Beautiful to watch such power. The latter was to be ham and eggs, but we discovered yesterday our electric cooler somehow got switched to "heat" instead of "cool), so the eggs were partly cooked (so were the cucumbers) and we decided to go without. Toasted some buns over our borrowed camp stove. It was a beautiful morning after a heavy overnight dew and we got the tent dried out before packing. After a quick ... read more

Just could not resist stopping a little sooner than originally planned, because this trip is mainly about connecting with Dianne's "Chase" relatives and we found Chase, BC on our map route. Stayed at the Lion's campground on the edge of town, beside the river. Met wonderful neighbours from Kelowna, and when our new stove would not work we borrowed theirs. Also viewed a bear eating apples from a tree across the river (glad I brought my new spotting scope along). Free showers and great neighbours made our stay fun.... read more
