After years of publishing my travel blog with TravelPod, I've been informed that they will be sitting down their web site effective June 19th. Initially I was very concerned about this closing, after all, I have written thousands upon thousands of words documenting our travels over these past six or so years. Where would all my words of wisdoms go, into the cloud, they Ethernet - thankfully the people at TravelPod worked p a routine to save all my postings and photographs to a .zip file, a file that I can hopefully upload here if the site looks good. While we're homebo9und for the next three and a half months, we are getting excited about our Maitime adventure in September/October and theN our trip down to Merida, Mexico in November to buy our appliances for the ... read more

On or about May 15, 2013 Gerri and I will cross into Canada at the Sumas, Washington border crossing and bicycle east thru British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Ontario, New York, and Pennsylvania to ultimately arrive in Carlisle, Pennsylvania. The route is a combination of existing bicycle routes and Google suggested bicycle routes. From Lake Stevens, WA (By the way, we picked Lake Stevens as the start because we have a friend who lives there.) to Abottsford, British Columbia, the route is a Google suggested route. Most of the route from Abottsford to Owen Sound, Ontario is the Canadian Bicycling Association suggested route across Canada. Along the way there will be deviations to visit some of our Canadian friends. From Owen Sound, Ontario, we will follow the Adventure Cycling Association Underground Railroad Bicycle Tour south to ... read more

Welcome to our blog! We are going to Tanzania for a global development internship for almost 4 months. We are going with five other interns from University of the Fraser Valley. The seven of us will be living in a Catholic guesthouse in the city of Dar es Salaam. I (Lisa) will be working with a non-profit organization called 'KidzCare Tanzania.' Their focus points are to support orphans and vulnerable children in Tanzania, assist with establishing early childhood education in rural areas, provide encouragement and support for communities and form networks and support groups for people affected and effected by HIV/ AIDS. I will be focusing more on the social policy and administrative side of the organization to learn more about how non-profits operate there. I (Levi) is going to be working with the local university ... read more

For more of my photos, or to buy my book, please visit www.nickkembel.com November 9th, 1985. A week before my 4th birthday, and I was boarding a plane to Abbotsford BC, perhaps the first backpacking venture of my life, to visit Chicken Grandma & Grandpa. I was in the company of a 2nd cousin or distant aunt that I wasn’t familiar with. But with Theodore (my companion Teddy Bear since birth) by my side, I was unafraid. My visit coincided with my Grandparents building a new house on a recently purchased piece of property in Abbotsford, an hour’s drive from Vancouver on the west coast of British Columbia. They had just sold the chicken farm in a nearby community, leading us to dub them ‘Chicken Grandma and Grandpa’. The setting of their new home was ... read more

Well here I am writing this note while looking around me at the newly fallen SNOW. Wayne should arrive in a few hours with his truck to load up my bike for travel to Olympia, WA. Thank goodness we were not planning on taking off from here. I have packed all the gear onto my bike...it sure does look well loaded. However, I have some pockets of unused space in the panniers. Also the tires will be put on somewhere in California so that added dimension will be gone fairly soon. Wayne arrived safely at about 2:30 from Kelowna. After some serious gear and travel discussions, we are now ready to proceed tomorrow. Adios amigos!!... read more

Well I guess its best it happens now rather than later. Apparently the water pump shaft seal is a weak point on the F650Gs model...just happened to notice a drop of coolant at the bottom of the engine and sure enough the coolant reservoir was empty. So I have the left side of the engine apart to repair the worn seals. This job is not an easy one due to an oil return pipe that tests your patience and ingenuity. I thought that my downloaded shop manual was fairly complete, but now I realize different since it just seems to leave me in mid-stream trying to figure what procedure comes next...just when I need the information most. Most other preparatory items are coming along pretty well. My travel partner, Wayne, has been doing a wonderful job ... read more

Reminiscing! Well, it's that time of year again when I'm usually on a trip. This year, due to the economy, I'm stuck with reminiscing (Anyone care to take a gorgeous Abbotsford home off my hands at below market value?) But what a happy time it is, thinking back of several adventures. Namibia. A year ago today, I was in extreme agony in Swakopmund, Namibia. Earlier in the day, I'd gone out on a guided quad-biking adventure on the massive sand dunes of the Namib desert. A malfunction near the end of the ride (rider error) flipped my bike and I ended up in the Swakopmund clinic. The extreme pain caused minimal sleep that night, but two days later I left with the group to continue my fantastic African adventure with Dragoman. You can read all about ... read more
