Alberta Travel Blogs

Background: A land of vast distances and rich natural resources, Canada became a self-governing dominion in 1867 while retaining ties to the British crown. Economically and technologically the nation has developed in parallel with the US, its neighbor to the south across an unfortified border. Canada's paramount political problem is meeting public demands for quality improvements in health care and education services after a decade of budget cuts. The issue of reconciling Quebec's francophone heritage with the majority anglophone Canadian population has moved to the back burner in recent years; support for separatism abated after the Quebec government's referendum on independence failed to pass in October of 1995.

Greetings! 7 months and 15 days is the time left until we depart. So this travel blog is being started a little bit early, but I'm sure there will be a few things along the road of planning that I'd like to journal. Life is a bit hectic right now. We are moving into a new house on February 10th! Which means we are in the midst of packing everything and that's a pain. I'll introduce my family: Me (Erin) - 24, unemployed right now and searching for my "niche" I guess. I'm hoping this trip will push me outside my [View Full Entry]

A Day at Sunshine North America » Canada » Alberta » Banff » Sunshine
January 7 The first day on the slopes this winter. It was a nice family excursion with roommates James and Trina. At noon we met up with our neighbours Chris and Carly. James and Chris went for a couple of runs in the Dive because they're hardcore skiers and they got the 'gear' while I went for a few runs with the girls. It was a pretty good day all in all. About -5 with some sun but unfortunately some low clouds prevented me from getting an awesome panoramic shot. Enjoy the pics. Also some pics from the Flames-Leafs game at [View Full Entry]

Even een kleine update. Dat vak over management issues met informatiesystemen was way too easy.

One fateful day North America » Canada » Alberta » Jasper
When we woke up today it was an absolutely glorious day. We decided to get an early start and go cross-country skiing, so we got down to the ski hire shop at 9am. However, today was not our lucky day… After hiring our skis we headed out of the shop, but before we could head off, a recurring medical problem Adam had had presented itself to be an infection. So we went to the Chemist who told us we needed to go to the doctor, something every traveller shuns! We prepared ourselves for the financial wack and tried to find the [View Full Entry]

Wildlife on the Edge North America » Canada » Alberta » Jasper
Today was our first day in Jasper and we decided to go on a hike in search of wildlife. It was about -5 degrees C which is a perfect temperature for outdoor winter activities. We drove to Pyramid Lake and parked at the end of the road at Pyramid Island. We then started on a trail to Pyramid Bench. Pyramid Bench is a big ridge with smaller ridges jutting out of it. There is series of trails that cross one another and cover most of the Bench. We started at the far end and followed the trail up a steep incline [View Full Entry]

Day 2.. North America » Canada » Alberta » Calgary
Film gisteren was erg gezellig, waren heel veel mensen.

Heading to Jasper North America » Canada » Alberta » Jasper
Today we left Banff and headed towards Jasper, approximately 200 km north. The drive is along a beautiful but sometimes treacherous road called the Icefield Parkway. It passes a number of glaciers which you can stop and view and at one spot you can even touch the toe of the glacier. In winter, this is a bit hard because everything is white and icy. You wouldn’t know where the snow finished and the glacier started! Also it we had limited daylight hours to make the drive and it was snowing on the way there. With snow falling along such a road, [View Full Entry]

Eerste colleges North America » Canada » Alberta » Calgary
Vandaag eerste colleges gehad. Kleine klas, goede docent, leuk onderwerp. Bovendien [View Full Entry]
