Alberta Travel Blogs

Background: A land of vast distances and rich natural resources, Canada became a self-governing dominion in 1867 while retaining ties to the British crown. Economically and technologically the nation has developed in parallel with the US, its neighbor to the south across an unfortified border. Canada's paramount political problem is meeting public demands for quality improvements in health care and education services after a decade of budget cuts. The issue of reconciling Quebec's francophone heritage with the majority anglophone Canadian population has moved to the back burner in recent years; support for separatism abated after the Quebec government's referendum on independence failed to pass in October of 1995.

Me at the Hoo Doo's
Well I thought since I have a few friends all over the world I would post up a few pictures of the part of Canada I'm from for them to see. All these pics have been taken in the last couple of months. Just click on any picture and it will open up a bigger window to see them better. I went on a roadtrip to Drumheller from Calgary with a friend of mine. Drumheller is where the Hoo Doo's are and lots of dinosaur fossils have been found in this area. It's about an hour and a bit northeast of [View Full Entry]

We left Heathrow on Tuesday in heavy rain. Nine hours later we landed in Calgary. It was 27 degrees C and sunny. Checked into hotel and then went walking on Princes Island. Wednesday morning. We had breakfast on the terrace overlooking the city, then a short walk to Calgary tower. Surprised to find no queues, only a handful of people there. The views all around us, with the Rockies in the distance, were amazing. We both stood on the glass floor and looked at people walking on the ground beneath us. It was a weird feeling. Walked back to the hotel [View Full Entry]

Day 55. Saturday. The forecast is 34 and sunny. It's 28 at 1100hrs. I turned on the AC in the trailer a couple times this morning while I was trying to catch a few more winks. My site has no shade other than what the awning provides me. On the recommendation of my new found friend at the bar last night I went to the Clay district and had a look around their museum. It's in an old factory. There are still a few of the original outdoor kilns there too. Nearby there is a brick factory that is Alberta's oldest [View Full Entry]

Day 54. 14,832Km Just a couple hundred K down the road but I was tired and finding a place on the weekend is getting more difficult. Besides, there is a blues bar just down the road. It was after 0230hrs when I got to bed this morning so I did'nt hit the open highway till after 1100hrs. It's hot again. Over 30 and sunny. Not as humid as it would be at home though. I was pleased to see more wind turbines today. The other thing I'm seeing more and more of is giant sprinklers in the fields. I was wondering [View Full Entry]

We got on the road from Calgary on time today.....a first for us! The drive down to L.A. was about 1.5 hours and it was sunny and clear and a beautiful day. We arrived in L.A. around 5 pm and had a tee time for 6:30 pm. Ok, ok...it was Lethbridge, Alberta and the club was a small 9 hole course on an irrigation reservoir on the prairie of southern Alberta. The clubhouse screwed up and our tee time was not available as there was a tournament in progress that was full of duffers who were even worse, and much drunker, [View Full Entry]

I'll forwarn you now that most of the photos in the entry will probably all look the same, and they definately don't do any justice to the Rocky Mountains National Parks So I last left you in Calgary with all the Western Glitz of Stampede week. Free breakfasts and cowboy hat wearing fun. Next stop was the Canadian Rockies. I've intentionally left this part of the trip until now in the hope that all the Australians might have cleared out after the ski season in winter. A relatively simple lift out to Canmore right on the outside of Banff National Park. [View Full Entry]

Day 53. Thursday. It was a rainy day when me auf brother Raule... I miss those commercials. I have no idea where that came from. I got up around 0930hrs due to nature screaming. I had looked up an oil change place the day I arrived so I already knew where I was going, problem is the GPS map is too old and there is no street listing where I was headed so I entered in the street name and the highest number it showed. As the GPS was taking me right past the street I needed to turn at I [View Full Entry]
