From Marja
The last couple of days has been looking at the most amazing views. Shell made her mind up that she loved Canada at around Vancouver. I have been impressed but not willing to commit to the "Wow this is amazing" rating until now. You really do need to do something spectacular to be on par with NZ, Peru and Scotland, but, yes, the Canadian Rocky Mountains has made the grade. I won't pick a favourite cause I can't but just believe me when I tell you that they are all great sights.
Besides that, every town here loves a good fake animal on the outside of their shops. I even found a life size plastic cow INSIDE a shop today! That hasn't happened since Helsinki!
Photos of everything I've taken are on http://www.flickr.com/photos/violettesaunty/collections/72157622226967687/ or just http://www.flickr.com/photos/violettesaunty if you want to look through everything.
Today we woke up in the Chateau at Lake Louise. We took the Chateau dog "Sonny" for a walk around the shores of lake Louise. I then climbed a mountain to get three photos. After that we had lunch and hopped on our bus to take us to Banff.
I'm loading photos as I speak......
Tomorrow is a helicopter ride over the Rockies - I'm a bit worried about that but excited at the same time.
From Shell:
Lake Louise is pretty magical - we saw a heap of beautiful lakes today, with that unbelievable milky blue hue of glacial lakes. The chateau we stayed in was completely posh and we loved it (but of course, taking Sonny for a walk was the highlight!). As well as passing into a new time zone, we seemed to have entered a new dietary knowledge zone where people understand what gluten free means. Yay! I only climbed halfway up the mountain then gave up.
Banff was a one night stop and is like a souped-up Jasper.

wooooooooow, the mountain lake Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh I want to go thr and swim wow what a nice view a paradise maybe!!!!!
hi Marja,
That all sounds fantastic. I fully agree with you - the Canadian Rockies rank up there with NZ and Scotland. I loved the place, but its perhaps scores higher than the other places for me due to the animals - squirrels, deer, elk, big horn sheep, and we even saw a young grizzly when we were there (Summer of 1988!).
Re. helicopter ride. I feel the same when about to board a light plane for some of the scenic flights we take -Ross has always argued that you might as well take a scenic flighy at these places 'cause you may never be back. i tell myself that it there are any problems, the plane can quickly land ! Somehow that works. And once you are up there, there is no time for anxiety.
Looks like there are a lot of Coffin Dodgers in your group. Lots of toilet breaks and cups of tea then?
Marja
You are brave to plan a helicopter ride - but Canada has great whisky - have a shot before you take off.
I'm sure it will be great for you and Shell.
Landings is when one looks to the heavens!
And then touchdown and it's all over.
Bet you both get some great pictures.
love and cheers,
Elke
