Storm Clouds

A rare sight in Lake Louise. Due to the altitude there are very few storms as such. This one brewed for a few hours and filled the sky with lightening for at least 3 hours, strangely there was no thunder to go with the rain and lightening....

Athabasca glacierAthabasca glacier
Athabasca glacier

over 100 years ago the glacier covered where the bus is as well as the road. there are markers in the carpark which is of fto my left where the glacier was when it was first discovered. Along the road leading upto the sno mobiles there are markers for every couple of years to mark the melt of the glacier.

Supprisingly the glacier isn't that slippery. The tour company tackes some of the ice and turns it into ice chips so the sno mobiles can have some traction and people don't damage the surface. They are taking huge precautions so it having tourists on the glacier doesn't make it melt to much faster than the weather is casuing it to.

there are lots of these mini glaciers around the place that all feed onto the main glacier.

There's no sitting on the back of the ute at this rodeo, also means no shennanigans coming from the young kids in the hatchback in front ;)

in order to win the wagon must be accompanied by its "out riders" and cross the finish line 1st. Pretty spectacular watching the teams race sometimes 4 wide around this last corner.
